Speed for what? Short distance? Long distance? How much are you running now and how long have you been doing it?

Can't help with the last 8 pounds. At this point it takes real discipline and attention to detail. I'm in the same boat - I have a few pounds I should lose but don't yet have the desire to to do it. Good luck.

Working on your speed without breaking yourself (by which I'm assuming you mean getting injured) and losing 8 pounds are two different things and two different goals. Losing said last 8 lbs will require tightening your food tracking and being patient. Working on your running pace will likely require a structured plan that is appropriate for your current skill and load (training stress) level and patience.

The things both goals have in common: patience and consistency.

You increase your speed by increasing your training distance. By going longer, you'll get faster. Assuming you're talking of distances over the sprints .

I agree with that for beginners. For those of us who have been running for a long time going further won't help much. That's why I asked the questions. My advice will differ depending on the answers.

You may have to recalculate your caloric deficit and macros. You may want to check out intermittent fasting as well.

Why would intermittent fasting help either of those goals, especially the running one?
