I have two questions. 1. If I am at 1200 and had 200 exercise calories...do I get 1400 that day or 1200...or half??? 2. If I went over by 200 yesterday, am at 1200 + 200 exercise calories today...same question plus should I stay at 1200 on day two to try to make up for yesterday? Many thanks!!!

A lot of people start with eating back half so you would eat 1300 calories and then in about 6 weeks you check your results. If you are losing a little faster than you selected you would know to eat more.
I don't think it is a good idea to make up for past overages especially if you are at the beginning of your effort. There is no good reason to add that burden to today or future days. It can take a little time to nail down a solid eating routine that ends most days inside your calorie goal. Trying to be perfect just gets in the way.

If you think that 200 is a reasonable estimate for whatever it was you did (you haven't said what you did or how you are estimating.....) then eat 200 - the way this tool is designed.
If you think 200 is double reality then eat half.
No I don't think you should try an make up for yesterday, you would still have been in a calorie defciit, just a smaller one than you planned.1 -
Take every day on its own. Some of the calcs from MFP and other UA apps seem to be a little generous. I have reduced my 'weight' in the apps by 3 stone and then eat around half the exercise cals and I have been getting reasonably consistent losses from this. Each person is different and you'll need to experiment a bit.2

Unlike other sites which use TDEE calculators, MFP uses the NEAT method (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis), and as such this system is designed for exercise calories to be eaten back. However, many consider the burns given by MFP to be inflated for them and only eat a percentage, such as 50%, back. Others, however, are able to lose weight while eating 100% of their exercise calories.
