My cats on a diet

Took my cats to the vet yesterday for their annual shots & check up. Vet said they both a just a little over weight for their size.
cut back on their "treats". I know the treats is the first thing that needs to go, i assume they are more fattening than the cat food, & they been getting too many treats, like 3 a day.
I would like to introduce the leaner cat food to them. Maybe i could add it in gradually, slowly little by little mixing it in their cat food? If they just won't eat the leaner cat food, i'm hoping just by cutting out the treats will help. I need to get them to get some exercise by shinning the red dot light for them to chase? Any ideas?

I think your feeding plan sounds good. My cat is overweight too and I’m trying to play with her more. We got those jingle balls and since she follows me around, I make a game of it. She will play along for a bit then plop down for a belly rub! 😹😹😹

Introducing slowly sounds good to me. Be careful with the red dot as it can cause seizures. Try some catnip and interactive toys too

I agree not to use the laser as a toy. Very dangerous.

Your plan to change their primary food is a good one unless, as you think, the treats are the issue.

They have feeders that only release so much food so often so your cat doesn't scarf down the rations for the day all at once.

Mine's on 260 calories/day. We're playing a bit more and I've stopped free-feeding kibble. He's always been on a mix of wet and dry. Now it's just the wet (I would top up the kibble when it was getting low, plus he's had some teeth pulled and he scarfs down the dry food, which has caused vomiting). So far, he's okay with it. If that changes, I guess I'll go to a leaner food product.

Your food plan will be good enough. But you can also buy motorized cat toys to get them moving.
