No Pain but No Strength

The PT was having me do walking lunges yesterday and after the 15th one I lost balance, my right leg failed instead of catching me and I fell pretty hard.

Today my legs aren't that sore or anything but they still feel like they have no strength, like they wanna give every time I put weight on them. Is that normal? Soreness I was expecting but this feels weird. It's scary, like I might fall.

Also is it normal to do so much leg work that they fail? It was like 20 sumo squats, 20 regular squats, and 25 of this thing involving a ball that was basically squats. Then like 20 walking lunges and I was supposed to do stationary lunges after, but didn't because of my leg. It felt like a lot. I've only been going to the gym for 2 weeks.

Like quiksylver said that's a lot of work at your stage. To answer your question, I rarely get sore any more, but I do walk funny after a good leg day, and yes, my legs do feel as if they could give out on occasion.

Maybe raise the concern with your PT and see if he/she wants you to work through it or lighten up a touch.

Sounds like muscle fatigue, which is normal.

That is a lot of volume, but it's not necessarily bad/wrong depending on what you (your PT) is trying to accomplish. That would be a good question to ask of them.

If you've only been working out for 2 weeks, that does seem like a pretty intense leg-day. I've had the weakness from a hard workout, it should resolve in a day or so. Soreness tends to hit 24-48 hours after, and can vary from mildly tender to "omg how am I getting off this toilet?!?" depending on the workout and how regularly I've been doing that routine.

My leg days would involve a fair bit more, but it's not my 2nd week at the gym....

i had that happen with a clueless personal trainer. i almost fell down a flight of stairs. back then, i didn't know any better.

that's WAY too much for a beginner - you might consider finding someone competent or following a program on your own.

Next day update: weakness gone, some mild soreness at the tops of my thighs.

Feeling pretty good. Thanks for the reassurance. :)

20 reps all as one set, or 20 when adding up sets done for them? It won't be too much of a big deal when starting, but generally rather technical movements like squats and deadlifts you typically would not want to be doing for 20 reps in a single set.

Soreness and fatigue from a workout will go down the more advanced you in general, and also the more you are use to the routine you are in. For all the jokes and memes out there about "can't walk leg day was yesterday", routines like starting strength that have squatting 3x a week tend to lead to no DOMS within about a month.
