Hi all,
So a little bit of back story. Originally weighed around 200 pounds at the beginning of the year , weighed in last week at 140. Yay for me 60 pounds dropped since January . I was super happy as I was almost at my goal of 133 (I'm 5'9). Then disaster, I was bed bound for the last week, bored out of my skull and pretty much spent my days eating cookies and toast. Weighed in today at 154 and I feel horrible. The common sense part of my brain tells me I can't loose 14 pounds in a week so chances are I can't gain it but I keep getting on the scale torturing myself with what it's telling me. I'm planing on getting back on track tomorrow.
My question is has anyone else experienced this type of gain in such a short period of time? How long did it take you to shift the weight you gained? Any tips on what I should be eating in the next few days? I've got a big party in three weeks do you think I'll be able to loose it by then?

ok ... DEEP BREATH ok?? The chances of you actually having gained 14 pounds in a week in remote if not almost impossible...the amount of food that would take is insane... soooooo you may have a lot of things going on.. water retention, salt play havoc... all kinds of things.. the fact you have been sick also plays into it..get off the scale for a few weeks...and back to your program...hang in there ....just get well and get back to business!!!!0

I agree with Coyote. If you've been sick, everything's out of kilter. Stay off the scale for a couple of weeks until you get back into your routine.0

Oh yes, most certainly mainly water retention! Especially if you were doing low carb before. Your body stores 1 part carb to 3 parts water, so in order to gain that fast, it had to be mostly carbs (understandable when bedridden and depressed!) and 3 times that in water.
Don't worry. The faster you gain (or lose), the faster it goes away (or slower, depending).0 -
Thank you! I'm hiding my scale in my wardrobe for the next couple of weeks.0

Is there ny chance you've knocked your scales? Or moved it? eg, from tiles/wood to a carpet, or to/from a sloped part of the floor? 14 lb is alot alot alot...even with water retention, constipation or whatever. Try not to obsess, follow MFP for 5 days or so, then start weighing gain0

Sadly not (I kept moving it around to different places just incase, lol). Although it is nighttime here so I have a full belly of food, figure that has to count as a couple of pounds at least.0

Yeah weighing at night is kinda pointless. I'm guessing most of it is water weight, although if you really didn't pay attention and ate over your calories a lot, you might have put on a couple lbs too.0

Being sick for me is very challenging and I tend to over eat. I am working on plans in future so this does not have to happen. Just go back to your previous way of eating and focus on how much fun you will have in 3 weeks at the party.0

I don't normally weigh at night either but It was bothering me so I figured that I'd just do it and get it over and done with. I was fully expecting the number to be higher just not that much higher, lol.
I agree I always over eat when I'm sick, I think it's because my first instinct when I'm bored is to eat.
Ohh well it's a new day in less than two hours. I'm going to hide the scale, get back on track and try to forget this weigh in happened, lol. See what the dreaded scale tells me in 2 or 3 weeks!
You've all made me feel much better so a big thank you.0 -
Is your scale calibrated? Need new batteries or a new scale? My scale throws weird numbers when it's low on batteries or on the wrong type of floor (choose the hardest floor in the house) or someone has knocked into it during the day. I recently gave up on that scale and bought a new one and it's been much better.0

Keep that scale hidden for a few days.
And remember, you've got the strength of will to have lost 60 lbs. You *will* re-lose whatever you did gain while sick (I seriously doubt it will prove to be a full 14 lbs). I hope you're at least over the sickness.0 -
Oh man, if you usually weigh in the morning, that can play a huge role. I know that throughout the day, I gain about 10 pounds. Then, "magically", in the morning it's gone. I drink a LOT of water though.
But the time of day likely has something to do with it :-)0 -
Hi Daisy! I recently had a MAJOR surgery and was bed bound for a few days and I'm still trying to get fully back on my feet. I was given strict orders by my dr. not to work out until a month after, and only a few more days, fingers crossed I know I gained a little more weight in my tummy, but I haven't been doing anything for almost 4 weeks. I walk around the block and I'm exhausted. Baby steps, I have been trying to watch what I eat. You'll be ok Its typical.0

OP how are you doing now?0
