Eating back exercise calories

Last time I lost weight I "think" I ate most of calories back. I WAS using a HRM and although I know they aren't crazy accurate they are as close as I could get and it worked! I lost 40+lbs.
Now (10 years later) I have my apple watch (series 2) and not sure how much to trust the exercise estimates - should I eat 1/2 back to be safe?
Walking/Dancing is what I am starting with

There is a bug with syncing between Apple watch and MFP so with the two synced together your estimated burn will be way off. To get around this install Pacer onto your phone. Unsync your Apple watch from here and sync it to Pacer instead. Sync Pacer to MFP. This will give you a more accurate amount of calories you need to eat.
You need to eat these calories back to properly fuel your body, but because people often underestimate how much they eat and devices can often overestimate calorie burn many choose to eat somewhere between 1/2 to all of them back. After a period of 4-6 weeks, they will use their own data with regards to their weight loss average to determine more accurately how much they should be eating back.2 -

Does the bug apply to other apps?
I did a little test today where I used MapMyRun - set to walk - walked 15 mins - burn was 72
Used outdoor walk on my watch - walked 15 mins - it marked it as 3.0mph mod. pace walking dog and gave me 53
20 mins of Just dance gave me 115 calorie burn.
They don't "seem" off.0 -
It isn't the watch or app itself which is buggy with calorie burn, but the way the app syncs with MFP to determine the calorie adjustments where there are issues.1

Is there a guide how to do this?
I am not sure how to unsync my watch and sync pacer0 -
As I don't have Apple I can not help you with syncing your watch to Pacer but to sync and unsync from your phone to MFP you do it using the Apps tab from MFP.0

Well it added another 15 minute workout and took away my step count on MFP
On the pace app it says I walked 4000 steps today -- my watch says 9,460?

I find the watches are prone to hyperbole. I only eat back half of what the watch says1
