There is no comparison.
I use both. The 30 Day Shred is a great fill in workout or additional workout for me. If I want to get my butt kicked, then I use P90X.0 -
I lost 30 pounds the last time I did P90X, but manged to find some of those pounds again, so I just started P90 again last week. Have you done the Insanity work out yet? I have it for after I'm done w/P90 this time.0

From what I gather, P90X is a BIG step up from the 30 Day Shred. I've done the Shred and it's a great workout for 30 minutes. I burn 300 or so calories each time and I lost weight doing it. P90X has hour long workouts everyday (1 1/2 hours of yoga) and requires more equipment. People have had great results from both on here, but P90X is a longer and more intense program. If you think the 30 Day Shred is a bit too easy for you, look at Chalean Extreme (also from Beachbody that makes P90X). It's more strength training and has a few cardio workouts and an ab workout. I'm doing that now and the 30 Day Shred was great preparation for it.0

Good to know! Thanks!0

I LOVE Insanity!! My friend has the 30 day shred. I let her borrow a insanity dvd to see how she likes it. It's suppose to be tougher than PX90. I haven't seen dramatic weightloss #'s yet (I'm on day 13) but have seen some difference just within 2 weeks. My body is trimming down - I have a blog up of pics of my stomach.0

I do not know anything about P90X. However, I have the Insanity program by Sean T, and it is intense. I can't get through the first level at all. My husband bought it for me because I like how it compared in reviews on other things. I am 110% sure that In 60 days it would change the fitness level of a Seasoned Personal Trainer. Like I said though, I can not do it well at all yet. I am sticking with 30 Day shred for at least anothe month before I try Insanity again. Also, you need less equipment for the insanity program. Just my own personal opinion though.0 -
That is good info to know. I have been doing the 30 Day Shred 3 - 4 times a week. I like that I can do it in 20 minutes with my 3 year old playing around. The P90 might be too long for me to do, since I have no where to do it without here right now. I still use my elliptical everyday!!!0

I was the same w/P90X the first time I did it last year. My wife and just looked at each other and laughed because there was so much we counldn't do. We got better fast though.
Keep at it0 -
Awesome!!!! Thanks for all of the info folks!!! :flowerforyou:0

I'm not in shape at all - so I do have to take more quick breaks than needed. I can see a slight improve in my fitness level this week compared to my first week.
I like how Shaun T lets you know it's okay to take a break if you need it and to do the best you can do. I also like seeing other people taking their own breaks through out the workout lol. Doesn't make me feel guilty lol.
My plan before insanity was to start out slow like working out 30 mins a day doing the Jillian Micheal's shape up series but I got bored and there were times I stopped the video and just hated my body and felt like I'm just going to stay over weight. Finally I thought what the heck, I just need to go for it. That's when I said I'm ordering insanity now! lol
when you do start it again just remember day by day you'll improve fitness wise and don't give up!!! It's worth sticking through. Just do the best you can. when I do it I don't really watch what the other people are doing. Whenever I feel like giving up I remind myself of that free shirt I want to rock at the gym! lol0 -
ive never tried P90x but i have read that its for people that are already in shape and just wanna get ripped....or even more in shape. it definately looks MUCH harder than the shred.0

Hi I have been doing p90x and now just joined fitness pal- What is everyone using to track plyometrics for excercise to count the amount of calories? I inputted high impact aerobics however it showed alot less than I thought. The p90x literature says 600 on average I believed.0

Invest in a good heart rate monitor to get a better idea of your calorie burn! They are worth the expense!0 -

You really need a Heart Rate Monitor to determine your calorie burn...everyone is different. I found that the 600 calories/exercise that was written in the P90X book to be exaggerated for most 'average' people (Mark Briggs is an exception to that rule--he burns a gazaillion calories no matter what workout he does).
Anyhow, my average burn, according to my Bodybugg and HRM for different workouts:
Strength training + Ab Ripper X, in general, burned around 400 calories for both
Kenpo X--450 calories
Plyo X--500-550
Cardio X--325-3500 -
I've done both programs and....the really big difference is time commitment and difficulty of workouts:
30DS - low to moderate difficulty
P90X - moderate to difficult
30DS - approx 20 minutes per workout
P90X - approx 60+ minutes per workout
30DS - 30 Days, essentially
P90X - 90 days
30DS - 3 phases, repeat each "level" multiple times per week
P90X - each day is essentially different, and you move along in 3 phases
30DS - no pull-ups
P90X - whole lotta pull-ups, with or without a pull-up bar
30DS - light to moderate weight
P90X - emphasis on HEAVY weight (reps to failure)
30DS - abs included in general workout
P90X - abs are a separate, 15 minute workout, 3x per week0 -
