Does anyone know why I get calories back for steps some days, but on days I do extra exercise, like today where I did 20mins on exercise bike, I only get calories back for the bike and not the steps as well.

No separate I've clearly not worded it correctly

I got calories back for 20 mins on exercise bike

No calories back for steps I've taken today using my smart watch

On days I only do steps and no additional exercise I get calories back for the steps I've taken.

So I dont understand why sometime you get calories back for steps and other days you dont

You manually logged a workout right?

That the tracker already saw you do?

Go to your Exercise Diary and find line for Adjustment - tap and hold to view more details.
Take pic and put in thread - that's the useful detail.

Oh - steps is merely a figure for display like glasses water drank - nothing more.

Device sends day calorie burn which is used for math by MFP.

It's also been observed by many that a day with exercise was just taking time away from an already active time period, so not a huge net gain in calorie burn.
And if the workout actually got you tired or made you sit more in the evening - then could be no gain in overall calorie burn.

But it's probably more related to manually logging the workout on MFP.
