Starting today (for real this time)

I've gained so much weight over the past few years, and seems to be climbing all the time. I did a BMI checker online, and am shocked to see I am classified as obese!

But I really feel like, over the last couple of weeks, something flipped a switch in my brain. I really feel that I am turning the corner, and feeling motivated.

I am reading The South Beach Diet Supercharged book; it is motivating me even more, and I am starting the 2-week phase 1 today. I feel motivated because I can do anything for two weeks, right? Even not drink wine and eat potato chips...

I like the South Beach diet because it actually seems a lot like the Mediterranean diet once you get past phase 1 - eat lots of veggies, fish, lean proteins... seems doable to me.

Since all you need is a calorie deficit just make sure you pick something that will make it very easy for you to sustain. You can lose weight eating potato chips and drinking wine after all as long as you stay within your calorie goal.

I am not saying anything bad about the SB diet. My own plan has some Mediterranean diet influences but that is because I really enjoy eating that way. I much prefer eating fish over chicken for instance. I still have my treat foods like chips though because I don't have any reason to avoid them.

    Welcome to the community! <3

If you haven't already, read the stickies at the top of the getting started forum. Very informative and helpful.

I had great results with SB years ago. Then got nailed with medical issues and gained 60 pounds back in 3 months.

Buy a food scale if you don't have one.

    Good luck with your journey!

    Welcome,

Just something to keep in mind. Anything you can only maintain for 2 weeks is only going to be effective for 2 weeks. Then you're right back where you started.

Look to make changes and do things that you are happy to make permanent. A simple, small change that is sustainable and effortless to maintain will do you way more benefit than some huge change that only lasts a short period of time.

    G'luck
