Only started weight training properly (Following a programme) on Thursday. I know about DOMS so I'm assuming this is it as yesterday my tri's ached but today they are burning.
I followed a lot of advice on here and didn't sacrifice weight for form but I'd just like to ask if this is totally a good thing? I Kindavlike the pain
This is what should happen after a good workout yeah!?

I have not been able to figure out why my muscles hurt some days and don't others. Last Friday I did a good squat workout and couldn't walk right for 4 days. Three weeks ago I went for a PR day on dead lift and wasn't sore. Can't figure out a correlation between muscle soreness and goodness. I'd prefer they just didn't get sore.0

I have days after a workout where I have doms and its hard to move.. Thing is learning to understand your body, and listen to it. I blew my shoulder a couple of weeks back when I lost form bench pressing, so have had to leave upper body stuff for now and my legs and core have taken a pounding recently. Yesterday I had really painful quads as a result of doing a more streneous cardio session the day before, but still went into my weight workout knowing I might not reach my reps/sets but I was going to do it. I was right I didn't quite hit my aims, and afterwards the transition from sitting to standing was interesting lol, but today I woke up and although a little achy, no where near as bad as yesterday pre workout. So pain can be good, its just making sure that you're only feeling the after effects of working out, and not actually doing damage.0

I couldn't walk properly after doing the first insanity fit test for 4 days but after the 2nd I was fine.
My triceps are the only part that are killing today so considering my workout was primarily my triceps ill just assume its a good thing.0 -
In my opinion its a good workout and a good day when i am sore. I try to leave the gym sore and the DOMS is just a bonus lol. If i dont feel sore the next day then i dont feel that i worked out hard enough. Some days i am more sore than others but as long as you arent in Pain ( there is a difference) then you should be fine.
As you progress you will get used to it and it wont be as sore...then you know its time to move up0 -
Thanks lady ark.
I'm not in pain no it's a pain that's only really there when I reach for something or lift my arms over my head.
Would it be ok to train another muscle today say chest or would legs be more advisable?0 -
I've found the kind of muscle soreness you are experiencing will happen with less frequency after about a month of consistent training. You'll still get sore, especially if you challenge the muscle, but it will be something that won't shut you down.
What has worked for me is taking an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory (as directed) and continuing to work the muscle. Hitting that same muscle a couple of days later with lighter weight will helped me get through it. I also found that doing some recovery exercise on the off days for speed or even slow distance helped. I found the worst thing you could do is to not exercise that muscle at all until the soreness goes away. That only makes it longer and worse. Best just to ease back for a few days and keep moving.
At this point I wind up with muscles that will quiver after a good workout, but muscle soreness is less frequent and less intense. But then again there's a time in my training cycle where I wind up doing deadlift max singles and/or deadlift lockouts (just the top part of the lift with a super-maximal weight). Those can still get me.0 -
Ok excellent thanks. At least 48 hours rest between training the same muscle would you say?0

I train a different body part every day. Thats just my routine because i like being in the gym and lifting 6 days a week. Totally up to you.....i would do legs or shoulders....let your triceps rest....to me, doing chest will fatigue them more.0
