Recommending too many calories?

Hello, I'm new to this app. It's telling me I should eat 1700 calories a day for 1/2 lb per week loss. I have 20 lbs to lose. 1700 seems like an awful lot and that I would gain a ton. I'm in the 'active' range as I've been hitting the gym for 5 days a week for 4 weeks now. 52 yr old at 5'3". Your thoughts??
