Tracking question

Hi! I’ve been on mfp for two weeks and am slowly figuring my way around.
I go on the treadmill for @ half an hour 5/6 days a week, and have been faithfully logging that. Today, for the first time, I had my phone in my pocket while on the treadmill (usually no pockets, stupid women’s leggings are so inconvenient) and after o logged my treadmill activity, I noticed that the app ALSO counted the steps off my phone. So, essentially, I double-dipped?
How do you avoid that?

If you have any kind of activity tracker synced, you don't log your exercise manually, unless you do something that your tracker doesn't pick up.0

You avoid it by not wearing your phone, unsyncing your phone from MFP, or not logging the exercise separately.2

Okay! Thanks, guys. I won't log walking anymore when I have my phone on me.0
