What is better for you in terms of helping to lose weight, soy milk or non fat milk? BTW: I drink fat free milk

I've been drinking almond milk, which only has 40 calories per cup and tastes similar to fat free milk. I like the taste. But I also drink fat free milk or 1%. I don't know if their is any benefit in one over the others.0

I also prefer almond milk. I am a little leary of soy. I'm not so sure it's good for women in large amounts. I think the almond milk has a better texture...the sweetened version, though not as low in calories, is really good too.0

Agreed. Almond milk or rice milk have been fine for me. I also hear soy is bad for boys. Good luck!0

While soy and almond milk have fewer calories than cow's milk, they have MUCH less protein. Personally, I don't get enough protein in my diet, so keeping the extra calories in the protein rich milk works for me. I have also heard mixed reviews on soy in large amounts. Moderation, I suppose.0

I'm on the almond milk bandwagon. If you only use 1/2 a cup (which is really only what you need for a cup of cereal), then it's only 30 cals. Our bodies are not meant to digest moo juice.0

Thanks everyone! I'll pick up some almond milk tomorrow then!0

The walmart by me carries it in the dairy section. Silk (makers of silk soy milk) and Blue Diamond both have almond milk that's about the same calories. Just thought you'd like some help finding it0

Personally, I need protein, so I drink 1% milk. I just think skim, nonfat, soy, and almond milk taste too watery and not creamy enough for me.
But that's just me, lol. To each his own.0 -

Care to Elaborate on this...i thght it was bad for Girls as Processed Soy Mimics some type of Female Harmone (estrogen i think)0 -

Yes, and extra estrogen would also be bad for men/boys :-)
In terms of which is "better"--I think it's personal preference and personal needs. In moderation, any of them (even whole milk) is fine health wise. Some people react badly to soy, dairy, almonds, or other milk bases; others prefer the taste of one over another. Dairy milk is typically less processed (most milk at a grocery store has been processed only by pasteurization); many non-dairy milks contain added sweeteners, emulsifiers, and other substances to improve the taste, texture, or shelf life. Non-dairy milks are also often more expensive than dairy milk. As long as you're not using cups and cups of it every day, it's probably not a big deal no matter what you use.
The scientific evidence one way or another in terms of promoting weight loss is pretty thin (no pun intended); there's no such thing as a "miracle food" that will make you lose weight.
Humans evolved to be omnivores--on average, we can eat a pretty wide variety of foods, including dairy milk, meat, lots of different kinds of veg, fruits, nuts, grains, etc. As long as you're getting the right nutrients in the right amounts, any of them are fine, although I would recommend staying away from ones with lots of added sweeteners and other stuff. Go with what you like and can afford.0
