Hi, i’m trying to recover from my ed and need to gain at least 3 pounds for now. I’m 5’1 and 85 lbs. I’m trying to eat at least 1400 calories per day but i really don’t want to gain fat, just lean muscle. I work out for 20-25 minutes in the morning, is this enough?

When recovering from any ed, the most important thing is to recover. That means focusing on being healthy. First and foremost, your mind has to recover from this fight. So your mindset should focus less on gaining only muscle (which is not normal for anyone) and more on reaching a healthy weight while being active (25 mins a day is fine) and not depriving yourself of any food groups. Don't over exert yourself and eat enough, as you will just feel tired and most likely crash at some point, or injure yourself.
Are you getting professional help? Do you have a support network around you? Believe me, the most important struggles are the ones happening in your head, so the clearer and sooner you understand food is not your enemy and you need to love and accept yourself as you are now, the quicker you will get better. You will be happy in the long run if you put the work in!9 -
at 5'1 and 85 lbs you are significantly underweight. I applaud you on wanting to put on some weight in a healthy manner. It is not an easy thing to do if you are fighting negative thoughts based around an eating disorder. 1400 is probably not even enough to MAINTAIN your current weight I am afraid. I strongly suggest that you get some help from a personal trainer/nutritionist or therapist (or all of the above).7

OP I’m sure your treatment team have told you exactly what to eat to gain. Follow their advice. No need to worry about anything else other than gaining. You need to gain some fat.5

Agreed. It’s amazing the negative associations we have with “fat” . OP - without sufficient fat you risk serious side effects. Hormones need fats for one. We burn fat for energy at rest at pretty high rates too. Fat is a good thing but like all good things to much of it is a bad thing. Your nowhere near that tho. Not a million miles near that. You don’t need to gain just lean muscle to be healthy when your underweight1
