Muscle loss with menopause

Everything fell at menopause, therefore, I started P90X 4 wks ago and I have been practicing vinyasa yoga for the past 6 months. I have been advised to increase my caloric intake and protein. I am scared of gaining weight.:smile:

  • I am beginning to go through menopause and I love yoga too; so maybe we can support each other. I can't seem to lose any weight especially my belly!

    I have gone through the menopause and have a definite change in shape with weight shifting to my midriff. I am a yoga teacher and have practised myself for many years but had an unfortunate fall on some stairs last year with a resulting broken ankle and slipped disc so my yoga had to take a backseat. I am now just getting fit again and back to practising (but not teaching) and am focusing on strengthening exercises. I do think my diet is what I need to concentrate on now too. The days of burning up calories easily seem to be over so I need to cut back in response.
    Have you tried doing yoga in the morning before breakfast? I tend to practice in the evenings which is when I have the time but the morning would probably be better. If you know a yoga teacher who can teach you bhastrika (the bellows breath) it is great for toning the tummy and also ignites your 'inner fire' (digestion).
