I started back after a few years. Fighting with slot of depression and anxiety. Saw a picture of me and I was so upset. I started last Monday and I lost 4.5 pounds in the first 3 days took a two mile walk and stayed the say weight. Stayed there for a couple days and then gained a half pound. I have been watching everything I eat and try to eat 1000 of my 1200 calories a day. I am really discouraged because I walked and exerted myself and instead I gained. I did lose the half pound back off as of this morning. Just really discouraged right now. :'(

You're on the road to disappointment if you are going to let daily fluctuations in weight affect you. Weight loss is not linear, but is measured in larger spans of time such as months, and not a single week. Lay off of excessive weighings. Also, 1000 calories a day is not healthy, as you will not be taking in the amount of nutrients you need.

    Welcome!

    Take a deep breathe.

Weight loss is not linear, and your weight doesn't immediately react to what you just did. It's all a cyclical process. I'm guessing you didn't gain all the weight in a month, you aren't going to lose it that fast either. It's important to understand the process so you can make a practical plan, these posts should help:

Everyone above is so right. You're doing the right things (well eat your 1200 calories). I only weigh myself once a week to not discourage myself. On weigh in days, I get on the scale first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. This even motivates me to go harder the next week.

*avoid scale on that certain week each month though. Bloating ruins everything 😁

Record your weight once a week. Daily is too much. Your body needs to get used to less fuel and more exercise. It’s gonna have a wobble to start with. Keep going! Your body will be thankful ❤️🙌

When you start exercising, your weight will likely go up a little because you are building muscle, which adds weight. Never fear!!! That muscle is going to burn fat like crazy! The weight loss will come. Have faith, keep working, you got this.

Unfortunately muscle takes a long time to build. Sorry, it can't be this. :'(

It also could be extra water weight from a workout. don't be discouraged. The fact that you are here and engaged in this journey is HUGE. I know it's not easy with Anxiety and Depression.

My advice is build a community of like minded friends on here and help encourage each other. Also I agree with weekly over daily weigh-ins. Daily works for some people but as someone who has and is dealing with Depression and Anxiety I know personally putting scale pressure daily is not a good thing.
