Non weight question

Random question. I’ve been a retail manager for about 20 years. I’ve developed a strong dislike for the company I work for right now. Anyone have some suggestions of where I can look for employment opportunities? Anyone know of an office job that all this retail management may translate to?

Have you gotten advice on sprucing up your resume? Made a profile on Indeed? Perused the job listings there and elsewhere? Found any overlap in the required skills and those skills you already possess? That’s where I’d start.

Been in indeed. I find a lot of same stuff. I’m not looking to go into Walmart/target. The professional sprucing up of the resume might be a good idea. Thanks.

Having management experience should open a lot of doors. I don't know where you live so it's not easy to say what company to look into, but use indeed and similar sites and filter them to fit what you'd like. Keep in mind you may have to start out in a lower position and work your way up.

It may be difficult to move from a management role of one company to a management role of another, especially if it's a different type of business line. At least in my experience since, a 'manager' role should have significant experience in the work the team does before one tries to manage it. I would think about whether you would be able to take a small step back for your next position in order to open more growth opportunities for you in the future.

I've stayed with the same company, but recently went from managing a team of 22 associates, to a totally different department. I couldn't get a supervisory role since my experience in this department is so small, but as an individual contributor I can work my way into management over the next few years by learning the processes, etc. It's a temporary step back, for multiple steps forward in the future.

    Good luck!

Put effort into your LinkedIn profile. Research the information you should highlight for your career path. Check out other people’s profiles who are in the same field as you to draw inspiration. Get a current head shot done. Connect with the right people on there who are in the same field or similar fields. I did all of this and the job prospects came flooding in.

Your best bet for a translatable office job might be something like a call center or mail processing...where you are in an office but where they also need supervisors/managers.

It really depends on the company as to if they will hire supervisors from outside or if they prefer to promote from within...both of those are kind of a double edged sword when it comes to long term employment.

I don't know what is near you, but Costco and Trader Joe's pay well and have good reputations for treating employees well, but those are also still retail, so not sure if you want to consider them.
