Struggling With Self Sabotage

Does anyone else struggle with this? It's like a war inside me. I want to binge but nothing looks good. Then I don't care and if the food was present, I probably would have eaten as much as I wanted. Most of the time I'm over all the junk food because it's just gross to me. Yet, my mind and my body still crave those moments of indulgence and want to eat, eat, eat!

Any advice on how to stop these desires?

Well, it might be a good time for you to reflect on whether or not your goals and habits are working with your current status and tweak a few things. The same calorie values won't work forever if your body is changing. Weightloss is a journey and different segments need to be handled differently. If you're exercising more, you may need to eat more calories to support that. Perhaps your NEAT has gone up because you're more active now. There is so much to look at and so many possible tweaks to be made that can help.

Take a while and really go over your numbers and your new habits. Do they match up? Do they make sense? If they don't, it's perfectly normal to need to make some adjustments so that you can continue comfortably. None of this is going to stick if you're miserable. So, what can you do to improve your situation and still achieve your goals? Would therapy help? Would more calories help? Would talking to a dietitian help? How long has it been since your last check up?

Personally, I have munchy days from time to time, and on those days I switch to putting my protein on a bed of greens instead of eating them with my carbs. This allows me to put down a lot more volume and feel satisfied without going crazy on my caloric intake.

Sometimes I know there's a day of the week when I'm going to want to eat some fast food, so I reduce calories on other days leading up to that day so that my weekly numbers still come out in the range I want.

There's a zillion little tweaks that can be made to make you feel better and more in control, but first you need to work out for yourself where you are and what changes might be most helpful to your current situation. Having a bag of tricks available to work with will be very useful because not every day will present the same challenges.

The all or nothing attitude towards treat food is likely not helping you. If your goal is to lose weight then adopt a plan and a mindset that you can eat anything that fits in your calorie budget. It is better to have a plan for eating "junk" food then doing it unplanned.

If you are anything like me the more you make something off-limits the more you will want it. The more it is a possibility the easier it is to control.

You may also be at war with yourself because you are eating too few calories. Weight loss is only attainable if you can sustain it. It is better to go slower and achieve your goals than to try and go fast to get it over with and end up rage quitting.

I just let myself have junk food occasionally. Usually I do try to plan it for a long run day so I’m still within my calorie limits but sometimes you just gotta give into the craving. I’m an everything in moderation person. I can’t do all or nothing it just leads to me binging.
