Squats vs. Bulgarian split squats

I would love to get feedback on the difference in benefits of squats vs Bulgarian split squats/rear foot elevated split squats. I like both - just want to know if anyone prefers one over the other and why.

    IMO apples to oranges. All though they work many of the same muscles. You will be able to do a lot more weight with regular squats as you are more stable. The split squats have you working on stabilizing your self in the movement as you are "off balance" more.
