A possibly stupid question

Hello everyone, I have never posted on this forum before but now I feel that I should seek advice before I move on to the next step of my new lifestyle. To that end I have a few questions, but before I ask my questions I feel it is important to give you some background so that those of you who can share your expertise with me will have all the information you require.

When I started my healthy journey I weighed approximately 263 pounds, now I weigh approximately 194 pounds so I've lost quite a bit of weight. At first I was more concerned with losing weight and just being healthier, I never dreamed that I would actually come so close to my goal nor would I ever be able to stick to it. But since I have exceeded my expectations I would like to move my healthy lifestyle into a slightly more ambitious goal. Instead of simply losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight I would like to build muscle and truly become in shape. However, I feel as though I am not prepared in terms of my knowledge about exercising to gain muscle instead of burn fat.

My current worker routine was fairly simple, I would do various types of cardio exercise every day and then I would proceed to do one of my major muscle groups each day. I would dedicate one day to each muscle group that way I could properly exercised each muscle group. However, my cardio routine would always be the same and I would always do the same amount of time.

Now that I am so close to my weight goal I want to build myself up into one athletic fit individual. However I have several questions, first of all how many minutes of cardio should I do each day if any? How many sets, and how many repetitions of each exercise should I do? I currently go to the gym seven days a week, and I have gotten very committed to exercising. I feel that with a healthy diet and provided I get the necessary information I could easily commit to changing my exercise habits in order to fit my new ambitious goals. I will appreciate any assistance that anyone could provide me, and ask that you kindly forgive my ignorance on this matter. Thank you

First of all congratulations. What an awesome accomplishment. I'm a huge fan of both P90x and Crossfit. With your current fitness level you should be able to complete either of those programs. Both programs offer cardio and weight training combinations. As a firefighter, I will do P90x workouts for a month, and then switch to some crossfit to keep my body on it's toes. Good Luck brother, and God Bless.
