Do people actually connect here or do you just scroll down and look at the titles?

First time user, long time eater. I'm doing this as a school project but I'm excited to see the results. I'm already changing my eating habits because I know my teacher is going to see the results. I also have to write a research paper on my eating habits and just thinking about that get me a little embarrassed. So I started this project a few weeks early and I'm hoping to get a good pattern started. I've got 30 pounds to lose and I'm starting, now! :)

Heck of a school project topic, heck of an effort. I am a scroller. If I see a title that interests me, I will open to see if I can contribute anything by way of experience not neccessarily any expertise of which I have little. I am hesitant to subscribe to anything I read because many seem to have as little or less expertise than me and there is no requirement in community to list credentials. I don't do anything on MFP or community with anything thought of connecting. I have had many runs on MFP. The current one has been my most effective so far. I think the reason is a simple as the two hip replacements I had in January and April. There was no way I was going back to my painful, immobile days prior to that. I weighed 281 in May, 267 in August when I started my latest MFP restart and I weigh 242 today. I think I am on a good road. Good luck with your project and road.

I scroll through and offer advice in places where I have experience (Also a long time eater, but also a long time commuter on the auto-immune struggle-bus.) and do end up sending out friend requests to those who seem like they would appreciate my kind of encouragement. I tend to be verbose on my home-page and I reflect on my habit changes frequently, to assess what is helping and what is vestigial from previous habit patterns. I like friends who comment and think, or at least read and consider, as we tend to get to know one another better than those who just scroll and hit the "LIKE" link on stuff without considering implications and goals of individuals.

Titles are important if you want to get the right attention. I will go into any that I think are either relevant to me or could potentially be an interesting debate. Or will be funny, this is much more rare than it used to be a couple of years ago.

Kudos to you for changing your eating habits and really getting involved in your project.

The forums are full of really good advice if you care to find it. So many knowledgable people on here willing to share advice, pointers and tips.

I connect with people who share my goals, sarcasm or health issues.

    Welcome to MFP!

I just scroll through the titles, click on what interests me and contribute if I can.

I'm heading towards year 7 of being on MFP (with a login streak a few months shorter) and have made some great connections over the years.

Met some through the forums, others through friends of friends or through similarities such as they are also maintaining or we both like the same type of workouts etc.

Many are no longer on here, but we still keep in touch and cheer each other on.

Good luck with your project and with losing those 30 pounds!

I try to notice the new members and welcome them.

When, I scroll, if I see a topic that relates to me or I think I might be of help, I will post in it.
