Over 60, Overweigth, with health issues.

Hi! I'm Lila. I am 67 (68 in January). I have chronic kidney disease from years of high blood pressure. I also am a type 2 diabetic (controlled). I have bursitis in both hips and right elbow making exercise really difficult. I broke my foot two weeks ago. (Dropped a 32 oz can of tomatoes on it!) I've popped up almost ten pounds in two weeks. I'm trying just one week of KETO to see if I can drop some of that ten pounds. (I know KETO is not great for my kidneys). Anyone else out there that that's a "silver belle" and has to also workaround physical limitations? I would LOVE some encouraging pals to get on (back) on track with. Blessings!!!!

Why keto? If you’re using it as a quick loss tool, don’t bother. You’ll just gain it back.
Eat your favorite foods so you don’t feel deprived. Log your foods into the food diary. Stay in a calorie deficit. Lose weight. That’s all.
I’m 61 and I’m closing in on 40 pounds lost by doing that. Good luck with your journey and your healing.0 -
Please read Eat to Live by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. Once you read that book, you can decide how best to move forward. Keto/Paleo/Mediterranean diets all have limitations and things that are not the healthiest.
I wish you nothing but the best, and this book will show you the way to true health. I'm also currently reading his other book (he has several) called the End of Dieting.1 -
You don’t need Fuhrman to lose weight; you only need a calorie deficit. I’ve lost just shy of 40 pounds so far without Fuhrman’s help or any structured diet or fad way of eating.

Yes, many of us deal with health issues. We work with them or around them.
Weight loss comes from consuming fewer calories than you burn.
Please don’t do something that makes your health worse. Just cut your calories. You can do that more easily than you think by
Just logging on MFP, then reviewing your meals and adjusting.
For instance, when I have a tuna sandwich for lunch, it’s a huge sandwich for about 300 calories. When I have fried chicken for lunch with potatoes and gravy and fried okra, it’s around 800 calories. When I started it was easy to see I should have tuna more often, chicken less often. It really is that easy.

A large part of your weight gain is likely inflammation/water retention from your broken foot. This is how the body is meant to work so there is no reason to go and do something you know to be unhealthy.
