Want To Learn How To Jump Rope

Anyone have any tips on how to start? I see a lot of fitness programs selling their ropes, but they're kind of expensive for me as a college student. Anyone have any recommendations for affordable ropes? Any jump rope stories on how you got started would help too! It looks super fun, and as a kid the one thing I regret was not learning how to do tricks while jumping, so I want to try to learn now, especially since it's a good alternative to the boring treadmill.

Go to Target or Walmart they’ll have jump ropes for under $10.
And then I guess you just keep trying at it until you get it down.1 -
When I was a kid, we would always jump using a clothesline. Clothesline is great for learning because you can cut it to any length you want and it’s heavy, so you can jump more slowly.4

I own two ropes but I am utterly useless at skipping. Trip myself up every second jump.2

There are a number of How-To videos on Youtube for rope skipping. Pick one that seems to make sense to you and just go practice.
An important thing though - make sure you are getting a rope that works for your height, or adjust where you hold the rope. Too short and you'll catch your feet. Too long and it will bounce off the floor.1 -
Amazon is another potential source of inexpensive ropes. I personally like the kind with beads on them, because I find the noise and weight comforting. If you're in an upper apartment or dorm, though, you may want to get something a little quieter. ;-)
I second the advice to check YouTube. I've learned the most amazing things on there, from knitting to spatchcocking a chicken... O_O3 -

Lost my will and motivation but I started this challenge but I didn't buy their jump ropes because they were expensive. I bought my jump rope off amazon and it does just fine.
**You also don't NEED a jump rope in order to jump rope which sounds silly, but you can pretend to jump over the rope. Sometimes this is helpful just to get you use to doing this motion over and over and then slowly incorporate the actual jump rope in to it.**3
