What was your favourite toy growing up?

With Christmas around the corner I started feeling nostalgic about some of my favourite childhood toys. These days there seems to be tons of different, fancy toys for kids to play with, but some classic toys never go out of style.

Please feel free to share your thoughts on some of your favourite toys you had growing up.

And most likely you were allowed to play outside.

That's obviously a rifle, maybe a blaster of some sort

I couldn't find a picture of the exact my size barbie I used to have but this one is close. r5p30vkjr096.png
My mom put the whole box in my bed while I was taking a nap and I was super stoked when I woke up.

    Also this

Another one of my favorites and this dumb kid that I hated came over and stepped on it, it broke.

This was probably the last year I felt like Christmas was magical.

My ninja turtle phase was epic

So was my GI Joe...well that wasn't a phase, they were some of my first toys and lasted til I kinda gave up playing with toys

But my overall most-used toy, probably because I used it as "accessories" to other toys when I wasn't building new things with them alone, were the Fisher Price Construx series. I had a whole bin of them and I've always struggled with the limitations of Lego because of my Construx background. My kids will be like "Dad let's build with Lego!" and I'll scream "GET THAT HOT GARBAGE OUT OF MY HOUSE" to let them know that Construx were better in pretty much every way

Maybe this story is inappropriate for this thread but I once kicked a Furby that was broken and wouldn’t shut up and I kicked it so hard that it cracked and broke but it’s voice slowly died out like it would in a movie and everybody who was there for the incident immediately felt bad about it cause it was like we listened to it’s soul leave it’s body

My brother tried to break mine and it started glitching out like a seizure. I was very distraught. We just reset it and everything was OK.

I was 8 for Christmas of '97 which was the year A New Hope was re-released in theaters for the 20th anniversary and Hasbro relaunched the toy line; this is fondly referred to as Star Wars Christmas by my family. I vividly remember opening all the action figures and vehicles I got as gifts, the last of which was the Millennium Falcon, which at 8 was bigger than my torso.

A close second a few years later was a giant KNEX roller coaster that took up most of my parents' family room and the majority of Christmas Day to build.

Yeah there was no coming back for that one.

I do wonder how many junk drawers and boxes in the world are built upon Tomagotchi bones, too

Did you know that the colors of the Lego bricks were inspired by the colors of Piet Mondrian paintings?

Reminds me of a similar story. One year my daughter continuously thought sitting on her tickle me Elmo was cute and funny. I remember his she used to say, “it feels good when he tickles me Mommy!” Until my husband saw her do it. He grabbed that thing and threw it across the room and it broke into pieces. I think she has been traumatized by the memory of the toy breaking into pieces as it’s voice slowly died.

I must have had 100 of these. Countless hours spent pushing them around indoors and outdoors.

I remember wanting toys, getting toys and then being disappointed, I didn't have fun playing with them.
I guess my favourite was my big doll, I liked to practice braiding her hair.

This thread reminded me of a fun memory! When my brother and I were around 10 we took all my barbies and all his wrestlers and gave them tattoos and "plastic surgery". It was fun.

nice...I remember cutting my dolls hair and wanting to take them apart...rip head off *shrugs*

When my GI Joe's would break I'd take them apart and rebuild them with GoBot parts, that was always pretty cool

My daughter reconfigures her broken Monster High dolls all the time...new faces, new body parts or steampunk style appendages, merging them together...it's weird, but cool...I was never that creative as a child.

Tonka anything, the metal ones. If you didn't have a chance to cut yourself on a rusted out old Tonka dump truck in our neighborhood, you missed out.

    And Hot Wheels.

I was separated from my parents for about a year when I was 6. So when we were finally able to see each other again , my dad gave me a barbie and a doll house. It's all I played with when I was growing up. Till this day, I still have that barbie. Her head came off but it can still mound on her neck. My girls play with her often. But now that I think of it, I haven't seen her in weeks....
