Just getting started

Hello everyone , I've just joined MFP and so excited . I have lots to lose , around 56 kgs . I have many questions regarding exercise . I have a treadmill at home and I walk on a speed of 5 km/h for at least 50 minutes daily .I feel that is not enough. I am also concerned about not doing strength training as I have no idea what weights to lift , how many sets and their frequency during the week. I know how weight lifting can boost metabolism , relax you and tone your body as well but I am really lost . I appreciate any home training program tips as I can't go to the gym for cultural reasons as there is no ladies-only gym and I have a 17 months old girl who I don't want to leave at day care.THANK YOU HEAPS:flowerforyou:

You didn't say if you have access to any strength training equipment at home so I'm going to assume that you don't. My advice would be to get the book Body By You and try the routines. It's primarily bodyweight stuff that you can do without leaving the house.0

Up your intensity too. Right now you are doing 50 minutes at 5km/h. Try to do 4 minutes at 5km then 1 minute at 5.5km and alternate like this for your 45-50 minutes. Then keep upping things as you get stronger. Soon enough, your "regular" speed will be 5.5 and your speedy will be 6 or more.....0

I prefer to workout at home. I would recommend the workout DVD program called "Chalean Extreme'. It is a 90 day program which incorporates the use of weights.0

Thank you all for the tips :flowerforyou:
I forgot to mention that I have a herniated disk and it really hurts when I speed up on the treadmill and I assume certain weights are good for me and others are not , right ?
I know it will be much easier if I joined a gym but it is not applicable .
I really so truly very want to lose those 55 kilos I'm carrying around day and night .
Thank you :flowerforyou:0 -
I am pretty clueless about back issues, but you do want to find ways of upping your intensity on the treadmill. Via speed or incline. Also, working "harder" not "longer" is always better.0
