Back for Round 98
Female / Age 62 / 5'2"
OW: 158.5 (12/30/18)
UG: 135.0 (for now, healthy weight for me)
Intro:Let me introduce myself. I struggled with my weight as a teen, topping out at nearly 200. I dropped it after high school and got to a healthy weight. Every major life changed has brought weight back on - having kids, pre-menopause, menopause, family tragedy, post menopause. I've knocked it back down each time, and have been surprised that each time required a different strategy, and resulted in a different type of lifestyle change to maintain. Each time as been much harder and slower. At this point, it's moving off at a snail's pace.
Motivation. I have a hyatial hernia. It does not bother me as long as I keep the weight at 150 or below. Every female on my mother's side has had arthritic knees, and I'm starting to feel twinges. They have also sustained falls and broken bones. My husband had a major health scare a coupe of years ago. The idea of being put out of commission by a preventable injury or illness scares the bejimminies out of me.
Goals. The goals at this stage are to drop weight to a healthy range, realign my eating style to a lifestyle that will keep me healthy into my golden years, and strengthen the muscles that support my knees, ankles, and shoulders, along with my core, to prevent injury.
Dropping weight post menopausal has been so difficult, I need this to be the last time. 10-15 pounds used to be easy to drop, so that was always my warning bell to focus. Not so much now. Looks like a 3-5 pound fluctuation will be it.
A healthy weight for me is 135-140. I've always looked anorexic at 120. We'll see how things are at 135, and go from there.

Strategy: Up the hydrating foods. Fruit with breakfast. Salad/veggies as bulk of lunch. Healthy dinner. Limit/eliminate processed carbs and sugars. Zero calorie intake after 8pm. Strength exercises 3 days on/1 day rest. Regular movement through day to compensate for desk job.
R98 Challenges: Continue to increase the amount of plant based hydration in my diet. Get back to workout schedule. This is the week of our big monthly briefing at work - try not to let it derail me. Start planning for family Christmas.

Day/Weight/Comment
12/09: 284.9 lbs (+1.3) … been bouncing around lately around the same weight for a couple weeks now. I’ve been pretty frustrated with my lack of progress during that time… but stepping back a bit, that feels ridiculous. I’m very happy with what I’ve accomplished so far this year, and I don’t like the idea that I’m stressing out over my rate of loss as much as I am.
I’ve decided that I’m going to allow myself to eat up to maintenance for the remainder of December. I’ve pushed myself hard for 11 months now and have seen some pretty great results from it, but I wouldn’t mind a little bit of a rest. Not going to push myself to eat at a certain number of calories, I’ll just eat more if I feel I need to, as long as I keep myself at or below maintenance.
Then I’ll start again with my regular deficit on the first, just like I did this year.
12/10: 285.3 (+0.4) … up a little bit. Not concerned. Hopefully while eating at maintenance I can at least stay under 286.6 lbs (the -100 mark for me).

Two parties yesterday. I did the best I could under the circumstances, but did eat too much. Lots of salt, and not enough water, so some of this is definitely water - I can feel it. Oh well. I’ve decided to just eat as healthfully as possible between holiday shindigs, do the best I can at said shindigs, and try not to gain. ‘It’s the season!

12/10 -165.4 lbs, I am surprised at the loss considering, I was good all day but my stomach was not well, and I gave into a trail mix about 9pm. On the upside, my stomach did start feeling better and I could go to bed. Before I stepped on the scale this morning, I was thinking of giving up for this month. So I will keep at it. It's just to much going on this month and I know, I am constantly going to be disappointed.

12/9 160.3 Same as yesterday. I'm so glad that the water is gone. I have to stop worrying about being out of the obesity range. I think it's messing with my brain. Stick to the plan, stop thinking about artificial designations. A real goal is that I'm .06 away from having lost 25% of my starting weight. Sure it's taken more than a year and a half but since starting this challenge I've lost an average of .53 pounds per week and .78 pounds per Round. Remind me when I'm whining about water retention.
12/10 160.8 A little bump, due to our old friend NaCl. The jerk! I didn't exercise yesterday but I will either walk or do weights at the gym depending on the weather. Probably gym, I'm not desperate enough to go out in 20-degree weather yet. I lost my glasses forcing me to wear my old glasses. UGH!

New Day - New Start
Hi, my name is Deb. I'm 57 years old and 5'5" tall. I've fought my weight my entire life. After 35+ years "dieting", I still have not figured out what works for me but I have to keep trying. So...
I know its two weeks before Christmas which is always at least a 5 lb gain for me, but if I don't start again right now, it will end up a 10-20 lb gain.
12/9 - 180.4 - I haven't been tracking (actually writing down) what I eat. I'm going to start that today. I haven't been exercising. I'm going to start that today. I am in the habit of posting on MFP here in this challenge (yay me) and will continue by posting my calories, exercise and moods. I love coming here and reading about and sharing in everyone's journey.
12/10 - 177.0 - Good Start. Calories: 1126. Exercise: 20 minutes on the treadmill.9 -

12/09 266.8 I was very hungry yesterday and even got a little lightheaded. I ended up going out for a high calorie dinner, but I felt much better afterwards. I think I didn’t eat enough on a couple of my high activity days.
12/10 265.4 And back down. I had another hungry day, not as bad as the day before though. I protein packed my dinner and stayed in calorie goal.

12/09 …..188.2 ….. That is little consolation but better than nothing I suppose. Busy Bee here, off to do more wrapping & decorating! Good luck everyone on this round!
12/10 …..188.8 ….. Dinner at a friends yesterday. Chicken Alfredo loaded with pasta. I also gave in to the ice cream for dessert. She is FAMOUS for eating bad junk and not understanding why she isn’t losing weight (or why she is gaining). This morning I see things more clearly. The buck stops here. Today will be a good day. Yesterday I walked nearly 9 miles and well over 20,000 steps at the school. I have arranged with the principle to get into the school during the 2 week holiday closing. He will change the computer lock-down on the doors to be open until 2:00 pm daily (except Christmas & New Years Day). Once I’m in, no time limit. That is the good news my fat belly needed! Babysitting DGS #4 today (almost age 3). DGS #2 has to go to the hospital (a bit of a trip from here) for x-ray. He fell in the school yesterday and ankle is swollen (hopefully not broke.) I hope to do some marathon wrapping while babysitting. I hope I can still walk later at the school. @quiltingjaine Bon Voyage!

@deepwoodslady I hope your Grandsons ankle is ok and not broken. Good luck wrapping with a 3-year-olds help
Unrelated but I know you guys will understand this:
I have a luncheon with a co-worker whose job was eliminated. It's a somber occasion so we let her choose the restaurant. It's a local Mexican chain with its menu/nutrition posted. Like a good MFPer I checked out the menu before to pick my lunch wisely.
The lowest calorie item on the menu is Chicken Fajitas 883 calories. A lot sure but manageable, however, the sodium is 2517. The suggested daily allowance is only 2300.
How can I be social and avoid sodium? I just got rid of 2 pounds of retained water after 2 weeks, I feel frustrated.
I have decided on Beef taco platter because unbelievably it has the lowest sodium. If I replace the refried bean and rice with pinto beans and cactus slaw it comes in on calories of just over 1,000 but the sodium is under 1300.9 -

@shunggie Thanks for the well wishes on my grandson. In regards to your luncheon. I would choose the beef taco platter. It's only 117 more calories but the sodium is nearly half and (as you know) water retention if very real. No matter your choice, have fun and enjoy lunch out with friends!5 -
@deepwoodslady I think it's irresponsible for a restaurant to have an item that has 4151 mg of sodium in one dish (Spinada platter). Literally no one should eat that. There was not one single item that had less than 1657 mg.
I'm whining here because no one in my real life wants to hear it, you guys can sympathize and sometimes we all need a little of that.7 -

Day/Weight/Comment
12/9: 219.2 (-0.2)/18.4 (0.0). I had a "day out" that included dinner out with my wife, brother-in-law, and his girlfriend. I ate reasonably, and shared some ice cream with my wife as we walked around after a movie. I'm STILL sore from basketball (on Saturday), but it's a "good" sore (muscular, but nothing "pulled").
12/10: 219.4 (+0.2)/18.4 (0.0). For some reason my "good sore" turned into both of my knees hurting pretty bad yesterday. They're better today, but that was at least mildly distressing. The next couple of days are going to be pretty busy for me. I likely won't get to the gym until Thursday or Friday; I'll just think of the next couple of days as continued recovery from one day of basketball. Hmm... maybe I need to reframe that.
