Two year slump needs to be over!

Hi all,
I’ve been on this board since 2012. And had great success up until 2018. I’ve literally been in a slump for two years (age 43-45). Prior to this slump, I’d always been able to get motivated and back on track. For some reason, I just haven’t been able to trigger that motivation response! Probably just needs kick in the butt so reaching out here! Thanks in advance for all feedback!!!

It is weird... I was the same.. it seemed I just lost motivation and caring about losing weight when I got a bit older. Almost like I used up all my willpower.
. I did get it back..and I can't say what I did to do that, except what I decide to go back to the program that I knew worked for me before. I think I lost my way trying new things that took me off track because I wanted to eat more and differently.
so.. go back to what worked best for you before. that's my advice.3 -
I’ve been on here for 5 years. The longest derail I had was for about 6 months. Each time I derail I really enjoy over eating fattening but yummy foods. For me, having to lose more than 8 pounds usually is the kick in the butt I need.
Get on the scale and ask yourself how many more unwanted pounds will you have to gain before you say “enough”. I’m 65 and I don’t want to be an out of shape person who can’t do what they used to do. That’s what motivates me to bite the bullet and start logging again. Even when I just want another slice of pie.
Also, if you like wine at night watch out for those calories. I measure out 4 oz and that’s what I drink. Because if I have two 5 ounce glasses I eat more. Over weight- not over weight. Those are your choices, and you do get to choose....5 -

I've been through this too. Lost a significant amount about 12 years ago and kept it off for a while, then it came back on when I had kids. Since then, I've really struggled with finding the motivation. It comes and goes which is so weird, because when lost initially and then maintained for 6 years, I could not imagine myself ever being in the place where I was so overweight again.
I have had bursts of motivation, but my most recent success (losing 15 lbs about a year ago) ran into a wall of unmovitation, and it all came piling back on and then some.
I certainly don't have the answer, although I think @elisa123gal 's advice above about returning to what worked before is spot on. For me, that is always how I find motivation. That's why I am on MFP with a shiny new account, calorie counting and food logging works for me. Still, when I've been in not the right headspace, nothing will help get me started. There has to be a wave of some sort. This time for me, it was the realization that my size and weight was affecting my health in a negative way, both physical and mental. That feeling of being fit and healthy is just so good, it can definitely propel me forward.
I hope you find your mojo soon! I dont think anyone else can "kick you in the butt" to make it happen though. It's an elusive thing, but definitely self generated.5 -

Way to go! I've been in a slump since getting to maintenance, weight went back up and I got depressed about it all. It's been really hard to keep working out and eating right but got myself back in the gym today and had a good food day. I have health issues that have resolved with weight loss so I can't give up now!1 -

Ok, I lied! I start over today! Went out last night and blew it out! 😊Had a great time but now feel horrible! If I hadn’t just put on 10 pounds, it would have felt ok! Planning a trip for spring, so now is the time to get this winter body into summer shape!0
