I have been at this for a few months now (15 lbs down - whoop whoop! 🙌🏼), had a couple “off” weeks of iffy logging while traveling, but the rest of the time has been spent accurately weighing and measuring, tracking nearly every bite I put in my mouth. I have been feeling pretty good, figuring out a good mix to not be hungry too terribly often, balancing the good and the not so good.

This weekend? I still tracked, but actually went over, which is very unusual for me. First was a lunch date splurge (heeellloooo brisket burger, but went light on the fries at least), then a traditional Puerto Rican meal at some one else’s house last night (YUM), then blah fast food twice today due to, well, life...

I feel like crud. A few months ago I wouldn’t have batted an eye, but I think to go from feeling pretty decent on a day to day basis, to eating WAY heavier and junkier makes it that much more obvious how horrible I feel (it’s not my normal anymore). Reflux was awful last night, and I just feel FULL. Not in a satisfied way, just gross.

So yeah. MFP and CICO is fabulous, i didn’t realize just how much better I was feeling until I wasn’t, ya know? I still eat the same stuff, just better at portion sizes and balancing it all out. Legitimately hungry but don’t have a lot left in the calorie budget? Some lettuce with a touch of dressing, or carrot sticks, or a hard boiled egg... not potato chips. Craving a snack with ample left over? Cheese and crackers, a bowl of cereal (normally a dessert for me), chips and dip, etc.

I used to enjoy the feeling of having over-eaten, and my portions were always consciously large with certain foods. These days that feeling has a different mental effect and I actively dislike it. It's a good development I don't think you can engineer but is an eye opener when it naturally comes around. Happily reaching for the foods that will get the job done without blowing your calorie budget is a nice place to be. It's not always like this, some days after unintentionally under-eating, or a hard workout or at certain points in the menstrual cycle you'll still get those days where anything will do, and by the shovelful please, but overall try to keep mindful of it and lean in!
