Being hungry often, eating for pleasure and food as a coping mechanism.

I've gained a lot of weight from late night eating and snacking throughout the day. I feel hungry when I shouldn't, ie not long after a meal etc.
I'm also very sedentary. I have depression and have tremendous difficulty staying motivated for any great length of time.
Its a vicious cycle I find myself in. I'm quite obese and that affects my self esteem and then I eat for comfort. The depression definitely has made things worse. I used to be in the 250 lb range as a 5'11 man for most of my adult life and now I'm close to 400 lbs in my 50's.
What tricks and or tips do you have for dealing with hunger pangs? How do you deal with wanting to eat when you're not hungry, ie for pleasure?
