Hi all... I turned 60 this summer, and after years of yoyoing, last February, I discovered the keto diet. Until keto/OMAD (one meal a day), I never had a diet that didn't make me feel freezing cold all the time or obsessively, starving hungry, and I can't tell you how much happier I am now.

I started with MFP at 246lbs in 2011, lost 96 lbs. and gained back about half of that in the space of 8 years, but on keto I'm back down to 173 lbs. without counting a single calorie, and my weight is completely stable. I have zero desire for sweets, fruit or starches. Who knew that would be even possible? Definitely not me.

I'm no longer pre-diabetic, my blood pressure is normal, my blood sugars are 4.3 and the only things "abnormal" are high ketones and high LDL (most of which is the harmless type anyway), which is totally normal on keto! Fortunately, I have a family doctor who understands this and he's told me I am completely normal and I don't need to lose any more weight. His opinion, not mine.

HOWEVER, when you get into the nuances of keto, it still helps to track calories to break plateaus and to make sure your macros are on track. I would still like to lose a little more weight, maybe 20 pounds, and I need to keep myself honest on the ratios of fat-protein-carbs (75-20-5%). I'd call that fine-tuning, and I'm grateful for where I am, but it's a new year, and I'd like to try.

So let's see how it goes!
