I want to eat fruit and veg but keep maxing out sugars

I am struggling to eat my five portions a day of fruit and veg and not going over my suggested sugar goal of 24g. Sounds a huge amount but if I make a sweet potato and carrot soup and later have say a banana I have maxed out my sugar allowance. I am going wrong somewhere. I am losing weight but struggling to eat to my calorie allowance as I don't have the macros left to eat more. I want to lose weight but also train myself to maintain a healthy lifestyle with good food choices.

Don't worry about going over your sugars . it accounts for glucose , fructose , lactose , etc...
The only time sugar will be an issue is if you have any medical issue like diabetes0 -
Hi, Im finding the same problem,
I generally eat well but am now eating small portions to lose weight and doing well but cant eat my fruit and veg portions because of the sugars,..... although always under my calorie count!0 -
I am over on sugars just about every day and as long as it is because of fruits................. I DO NOT CARE0

This really annoyed me, so I stopped tracking sugar here on MFP. I don't have any blood sugar issues and hardly eat any processed foods, no sodas, so I figure if all my sugar is from fruit and veg I don't need to worry about it.
But if you want to keep tracking your sugar, there's websites where you can look up fruit and veg that are moderately low in sugar. Carrots and sweet potatoes are high, as are beets, off the top of my head. Googled this for you

Oops posted same time but good advice !0

it really doesn't matter if you're going over. They're not processed or refined sugars and they're within your macro needs.0

I track sugars because of ketosis & low carb dieting. I do that because ketosis controls my hunger more than any other way... Eating fruit - I don't do much of it, and since doing that- I've been shedding weight like crazy.
A calorie is not a calorie - eat 3000 calories of marshmellows or 3000 of veggies. Results will differ greatly.
That being said - if you're not in low carb, then don't worry- thats what most will tell you on here anyway!0 -
Try eating more berries, green veg or salad, they are lower in carbs than banana's, carrots and sweet pots.0

I'm diabetic, so fruits add a lot of sugar to my daily allowance. I tend to do more veggies, so I get more bang for my buck. I've also changed my sugar macros to fiber. That's one that you WANT to go over on.
If you're not diabetic, don't worry so much about the sugars from fuits. If you're staying away from simple sugars and processed foods, it's not really an issue.0 -
Like many said before me (but I'm going to say it just once more all the same), it's not an issue unless you have to watch your blood sugar (in my mind, everyone has to), or try to keep your overall carbs low.
If you are from the IIFYM camp, forget it.0 -
I agree if you lived by the sugars period almost everything would put you over, Fruit and Veggies are not really "bad" sugar unless, hell some animals live on diets of mostly fruit and they are ok. But moderation and the other macros are the key
really Sugars and Sodium is meant to be added salts and sugars not total, everything has salt and sugar naturally that is ok the issue isit's when you add to naturally occuring stuff and eat processed foods that have had them added to bump up taste
saying that some fruits are high in fructose and glucose which is not great and dried fruits are exceptionally high in added sugars/salts so eat them raringly0 -
Sugar is a carb. Track carbs, not sugar. Sugar is meaningless for the most part. Even diabetics track carbs rather than sugar.
If you're under your carb goal, why waste your time worrying about sugar? You don't worry about individual amino acids do you? Or do you just make sure you get enough protein? Same concept.0 -

I meant if this wonderful self balancing system goes a little off, you wouldn't notice, so it's a good thing to get it checked every now and then. I did not mean everyone has to actually calculate simple carbs every day, I hate it myself, but I realise now it may have read this way.0 -
I have this problem as well!
I'm always over on the sugars.0 -
