Hi just joined, my name is sally, needed to lose about 3 stone maybe 4 depending on how I look when I start to lose the weight, suffering from fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis, since the sad death of my son, but determined to lose some weight, I do walk every day with the dog but only walk a small amount because of the pain I am in, but hoping that if I lose weight I might not be in so much pain, who knows I am wishing but this weight has to come OFF, thank you for reading my message,
Thank you sally xx

Welcome to MyFitnessPal! My best advice is to get started with logging food, don't give up if logging is hard to start with, give it time as it can take awhile to get used to doing and it will get easier. Ask here in our community for help. There are lots of knowledgeable members who have been very successful in the long term and can answer questions on how to get logging down.

    Hi Sally :)

Lower levels of inflammation and less stress on joints are known benefits of weight loss, so hopefully you will get some pain relief, though obviously it's not going to be a total cure (as I'm sure you well know).

I don't have fibro, but do have ME/CFS, so know some of what you're going through, particularly the fatigue aspect common to both illnesses. My best advice is to not set too aggressive a weight loss goal to start. Aim for 1/2 a lb per week to start and see how you go. Also, have some food prepped and ready for days when you Just Can't, so you don't need to think about what to make, or exert yourself in making it. If you know you crave particular things when you're flaring or particularly fatigued, aim to have things that will satisfy those cravings, while still meeting nutritional and calorie goals, in the cupboard, fridge, or freezer.

There is a huge amount of whack-a-doo ideas on the internet in terms of 'best' diet for chronic illnesses such as fibromyalgia, but most of it is unsubstantiated. Eat in a way that is sustainable for you and makes you feel satisfied, within your allotted calories. That's all you need to do at this point :)
