First of all- I will ask my OB about this at my next appointment- but just want some advice before hand.
I am 8 week pregnant with my 3rd child. I am also at 300lbs. Because of my weight- she says it's perfectly fine for me to loose weight- and in fact she recommends it. But I'm having problems finding a calculator online to tell me how many more calories i need because of the pregnancy? Myfitnesspal has me set at 1600 calories per day... but there isnt anywhere to put that you are pregnant. I don't want to not have enough- but I also want to keep losing weight. Anyone have any advice? Any calculators I've found online won't tell you if you're pregnant- they just say, "eat 3000 calories to maintain your weight... pregnancy is not a time to lose weight etc etc).... Thanks in advance

Definitely check with her. I believe the number of extra calories needed is 300 when pregnant and 500 when breastfeeding. So I would make sure to at the very minimum add that number into whatever MFP gives you. Maybe a good idea until you talk to her would just be simply starting to logg what you eat now, and if you know that you are eating something like a snickers everyday it wouldn't hurt anything to cut that out! Plus if you kept a log for like a week of what you eat now that would help your OB to see what you are doing currently so that you guys can make the best plan for you and the baby.

    Congrats!!

First I just want to say, Congrats!! Now, hopefully I have this right, I just had my baby 4 months ago, and if I understand correctly the biggest misconception about pregnancy is that you have to eat more. I would just continue to eat healthy, I don't believe you need to up your calories. But I am glad you'll be double checking with your doc, because I'm not 100% sure, I think you just need to make sure you are getting well balanced meals, including all your food groups! Congrats again and good luck maintaining your weight loss. Also if you are exercising you can keep that up as well, just make sure to run your workout plan by your doc as well, and make sure to listen to your body!!

Now first let me say I am NOT a medical professional. But I do know that you need to maintain your weight under the STRICT guidance of your ob/gyn preferably one who has a specialty in obese-to morbidly obese mothers. Also you won't find a calculator because of the liability of your situation. What I mean is, most women are not counting calories while pregnant or trying to loose or maintain weight. Plus you have some moms with EDO's (eating disorders) and I assume the site doesn't want to encourage unstable thinking in pregnant women. I know you aren't doing it for vanity, rather for health. You really have to work with your OB/GYN and a nutritionist during pregnancy. A mother more than 50 lbs overweight increases her risk of miscarriage and gestational diabetes as well as a host of other issues. It is not a myth that an obese mother does NOT have to gain weight to have a healthy pregnancy. I have not however seen what the research is on losing weight while pregnant. There has been a program in my city which guided obese mothers in healthy weight maintenance during pregnancy. I know that many cities also have research and specialty OB/GYN to deal with weight and pregnancy as well. I know some people get angry when I say go with a medical professional FIRST but that won't stop me from syaing it because you are a beuatiful mom and I want you to have a beautiful healthy little one and be around for many years to raise them.
You can safely do what you want but be sure to at least do one appt with a specialist in your area and most if not all insurance will cover the cost. They want you healthy so you don't use up the $$$
Plus in most of the programs I have seen, they partner families with buddies who are on the same journey-weight maintenance and healthy deliveries. Good luck!

I'm a senior nursing student and according to my OB teacher pregnant women need to consume and extra 200 calories a day. While that is a general rule you should deffinately check with your MD.!

    Good luck!

    Congrats to you!!!
When I was pregnant with my 2nd, I joined a site much like this one that tracks my food intake & also helped me remember to take my prenatal vitamins. The website is babyfit.com
It's free and there are tons of great info and support. Plus, they have a wheel which you can spin everyday to try to win something (if that something is on your wheel that day) I won a huge babyfit water bottle and I still have it!

I only gained about 20 pounds during the pregnancy, lost some of the weight and then came here and continued to lose the "baby weight" from my 1st.

You should go take a peek.

    Good luck!!
