Are you anemic? I am and I have developed hair loss because of that, I am only 25.

I do not think so. If I was anemic I would not have energy, right?

That is a symptom, but you could have low iron and no symptoms. It's worth getting a blood test.

Also, are you using anything on your hair that could be causing breakage and drying? Hair dye, heat styling, etc.

True, I could not go a day without a nap. Do you have bald spots?

No bald spots. It's just thinner and the strands are not all the same length because they break.

Yes I have a lot of energy, so I do not think I am anemic.

Yes I highlight my hair, and do a couple of minutes of blow drying a day so I know that is contributing to the breakage, but I have been doing this since I was a teenager. I was hoping to identify what has caused the dramatic change in the last two years.

Fish oil!! or Hair skin and nails which is just fish oil and other nutrients. My hair has gotten so much healthier since I started eating right and making sure I get enough nutrients.

Try the beer rince along with the rest. I know a lot of people apparently have never heard of it, but I'm not joking. It will help a lot with just cutting down the brittleness and frizz. After you shampoo, just pour it over your hair, rinse and condition. Any beer will do, so buy something cheap.

    I've done that before, also.

Would doctors normally order a hormone level test because of hair (would insurance cover it for such a young person)?

Yes your insurance should cover the test. It's a blood test and you will have to fast for it. You can talk to your Primary Care Doctor. I had thyroid problems when I was in my early 20's. Honestly, hormone problems can crop up at any age. Just double check your insurance to see how much it covers or if there's a co-pay.

They should because it is a symptom of thyroid problems. That is not the only thing it is a symptom of, but it is something that needs to be treated if that's the case.

There are many issues that hair loss, brittle hair, whatever can be a symptom of. It may just be not enough fat or calories in the OP's case, but it could be something more serious.

I have never heard of a beer rinse. I wonder how my husband would feel about me using his beer for my hair.. HAHA
