Hello Everyone. I have been on this path for awhile. First, I did Ideal Protein and lost 35 pounds in 3 months. Amazing results. But, because it was so restricted, I gained it back. Then I tried Keto. I lost 18 pounds. But, once again, the restrictions were too much for me. I ended up gaining back the 18 pounds and 20 more. I feel tired and winded all the time. I find myself walking slower than usual because of this weight gain. So I need help.

I find that I do great all day and end up screwing it up at night. I've also found that I can't totally lay off of carbs. I'm making an attempt to eat healthy foods regularly and simply cutting out unhealthy food. My biggest problem is sweets. It relaxes me to have something sweet at the end of the day.

Anyone else have a hard time with the end of the day? If so, what's helped you? Also, any specific diets that you have had long term success with?

Thanks so much.

If restriction doesn't work for you, why not try just hitting a moderate calorie goal?

I log a late night snack first thing in the morning, so I can plan the rest of my day to allow for it. When I was still losing weight, I ate pretty much the same foods I always did, just changed the proportions a little. Never did low carb, never followed any other diet. I picked a relatively slow rate of loss, logged accurately and consistently, and learned from my log over time which foods fill me up, which were a waste of calories, which had to be set aside as a special occasion treat. After years of maintaining I still have a late snack, usually a weighed out portion of ice cream or a couple of Oreos

The healthy eating requirement is one of the traps I kept falling into over the years. It is not necessary to completely restrict all the food you want to eat. Losing weight is about staying within your calorie goal most days. That is it. You can eat sweets or anything else you can moderate. You do, obviously, need to try and eat fairly balanced nutrition most of the time but not all of the time. One of my first rules was that I would not restrict any food unless I absolutely could not make it work.

Start with how you would normally like to eat and try to find a way to keep your hunger controlled and stay within a calorie goal. You will probably need to make some compromises and some substitutions but do your best to keep it as normal as you can for yourself. It may take some time to figure it all out and you may make mistakes but that is okay. Perfection is not necessary. You only need to lose weight most days.

I have lost over 200 pounds eating things I enjoy and not being perfect.
