Throwing up water in the mornings?

I normally enjoy a glass of water before I go to bed and when I get up in the morning. This morning, however, I vomited the water back up. No upset stomach or other symptoms. I have had acid reflux problems in the past, but that’s only after I have eaten something. Is there anyone else who have had this problem? What did you find out?

If it’s a one time thing with no other symptoms, I’d probably chalk it up to a random stomach irritation. If it keeps happening or you have other symptoms, I’d ask the doctor.9

If it was just this one instance it could be a lot of things causing it. I would wait and watch for other symptoms. However if this is re-occurring I would see a Doctor. That is definitely not usual and should probably be looked at.6

That doesn’t really make sense because the water doesn’t sit in your stomach all night. It gets absorbed and flows through your system1

Did you drink it too fast?0

(Seriously, if that's a possibility for you, wouldn't hurt to take a test.)

Agree with the others that if it's just this morning, I wouldn't worry about it. If you continue to have trouble holding things down, or it continues to happen in the mornings, then it is worth getting checked out. But once I would just chalk it up to weirdness.4

Thank you for your responses! I will just keep an eye on it for a while then.2

It is cold, flu, and viral infection season. You could be coming down with something, pregnant, or it was just random one off occurrence.1

When I had GERD, everything was fair game. There was no rhyme or reason, time or season to when and what I would throw up.
I had a particular weight threshold where it would kick in, usually right around 200 pounds. By the time I hit the 220’s, it was my “special friend” and we went everywhere together, along with a plentiful supply of barf bags, towels to sit on, extra pants and panties. If we were in a social situation, my husband was well aware of “The Look” that meant “We have to leave. Pronto!”
Not to sound tactless, but have you put on any weight lately that might have pushed you past your own threshold?
If for none of the other myriad reasons I am grateful for weight loss, acid reflux/GERD would be the Number One reason I would never go back to the old me.5 -
Water affects my GERD/acid reflux if I drink too much too fast or if I drink and haven't eaten in a while.2

They said they drink in the morning too.
OP - A hiatal hernia can do that, and it could explain the acid reflux too. It's a pretty common condition, especially if you were ever overweight or pregnant. If it happens again, mention it to your Dr.0
