Heart Healthy Friends

I’m a 55 year old male who recently had a mild heart attack and then stents put in. I’m working towards a more heart healthy diet and regular cardio exercise. I’m looking to connect with others who are interested in heart healthy diet and exercise! Support, new things to share, and success stories. Looking for all these things.

I'm trying to prevent the vascular issues my parents had. I eat whole foods plant based and am trying to stick mostly to the Plant Strong diet. My cardio is walking/running my dogs for the most part. I'm married with 2 grown kids, happy to meet new friends who post frequently on here. Feel free to add me.

I watched a program on Amazon Prime promoting a plant based diet and I’ve been trying to move in that direction. I believe the title was “Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease”. It was a real eye opener. I’m still using some chicken and fish in my recipes but I’ve reallly made significant improvements. I’ve been really surprised how many new recipes that are plant based that I’m really enjoying. I’ve also been gradually increasng my workouts on the treadmill and stationary bike. So far I’ve lost 15 pounds. Need to lose another 10-15. Stress test scheduled for Monday. I’m interested to see the results.

On this “journey” towards being heart healthy through plant based eating, my Vitamix blender and my instant pot have been the two most important tools I’ve had. They are absolutely awesome! I’ve been amazed that I’m finding so much good food!

Here's the thread I've been looking for! I'm a newb to MFP trying to navigate weight loss on the cardiac diet. I had my attacks in May, and managed to lose 25 pounds in rehab by October, with prolly 10-15 more to go until the Docs stop nagging me to lose more. Joined the site to try to figure out the weight plateau I've been stuck on since November (and may have found the problem after 2 days...)

Sounds like you’re doing great. I am transitioning to plant based food. I don’t call it a diet because it’s really a lifestyle change and I haven’t felt deprived in any way. If you haven’t watched Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease on Amazon Prime, or possibly on You Tube, or Forks over Knives on Netflix, I would highly recommend it. I also bought a Vitamix blender and Instant Pot and they have proven to be worth their weight in gold.
