Exercise induced depression

In my racing time, when I have completed marathons or ultras, I would get depressed,a low feeling like I had failed or just didn't care. Then I read in a running magazine(can't remember which one) by a PT with PhD. that some people experience what's called "exercised induced depression" since the body has gone through a stressful event that has inflammation results that affects the whole body. Has anyone else ever had an experience like this? What have you done to help get through it? I just rest, drink water, slight stretching
