Over 55 - Everything Out of Whack!!!

Hi Everyone...got that wake up call on December 26, 2019. I have high blood sugar and cholesterol. Knew things weren't right in my body because i started feeling nauseous when i got out of bed and stayed that way for a few hours; my joints are sore and to be honest, just plain hard to walk; blurred vision; my lower abdomen was going crazy; hormones all over the place...poor hubby! Well hopefully I'm on track now.
This is my story. Over the last 5 years, there has been a number of high stress actions that have taken over my life and it's time that I take charge to take it back or I won't be here to see my grands grow up. Let's see where to start. 5 years ago-change from a stressful job in the legal field of almost 10 years to a stressful but satisfying career. My father passed away that same month unexpectedly from Dementia. 3 years ago my Mother is diagnosed with Dementia and i became her caregiver from Georgia (she lives in SC) as she lives alone. Talking about stressful. We moved into a nicer apartment that year. I'm going to SC sometimes 3 times a month and it was beginning to wear me down, so i cut the trips to twice a month and bought a newer vehicle to handle the trips. Mind you, I was supposed to have already advanced at my place of employment, but it seemed like one thing came after the other and here we are 4 1/2 years later, still have not had the mindset to advance and further my career. Let's not talk about all the yo-yo weight loss and gain (more gain) that was happening at the time. A bit of depression set in and so do my anxiety, courtesy of the military and that was a mess in itself. Every time that I thought I could sit down and get through one set of study materials, NOPE...you need to do this first, don't take care of yourself.
End of 2018, we bought our home and kept in mind that this would be a safe place for our family and some friends who really need a place to go TEMPORARILY, ~~~~ Yay!!! Well our place became the place to be this past summer 2019 (we have a pool) and it got a little hairy with a family member...so much so that she has been banned from our home until she and her father have a talk (his words). Wellllllll, I went to pick up my mother for Thanksgiving and (sigh) let's just say the Dementia progressed a lot more than we thought...was not taking her meds correctly, despite the modern technology and she lost a lot of weight from not eating....and a host of other things that were wrong or dangerous...Needless to say, she is living with us now! I am so grateful for her being there...my home is clean and I cook. Happy median. I can see how happy she is and so am I. There is more but I guess I can stop here for now. So Yes, I had to start doing something, so I started with Keto unofficially 2 wks ago and with Intermittent Fasting officially on January 5, 2020.

    That all sounds very stressful.

If keto and intermittent fasting make you feel good, great. If they don't, there are other ways to lose weight. Just weighing your food and logging every bit in this website, making sure your target numbers stay green, is a great way to do it. Have you asked your doctor about doing keto with your cholesterol?

I hope you find a measure of peace now that your mom is close enough to monitor without having to do all that driving. I hope your family members come together and straighten things out. And if you need a friend or accountability buddy, feel free to send me a friend request.
