How do you fight cravings?

Ok, so I have two vices. One is soda and the other is french fries. I love both and rarely leave anywhere without getting atleast one of them. The worst for me is soda- I never, ever leave a mini mart, food place, or anywhere else that sells it without one. Any advice on fighting these cravings? How do you keep yourself away from your favorite, but not so healthy, foods?

I drink sparkling water flavored with fruit juice - fizzy like soda and tastes great with NO calories :-)0

I was a huge Coke drinker. What got me off it was Propel. I almost never have a soda now. I used to hate diet sodas and pretty much still do - except for a Diet Hansens Creamy Rootbeer once in awhile. Now I drink lots of real water - Arizona Green tea pommegranate (in the tubs - make by the pitcher) and an occasional Propel (used to drink about 8 of the 24 oz bottles a day). You just have to find what that substitute is for you - for my sister it is the carbonated flavored waters. You can do it!0

You dont nessesarily have to fight this craving. Compromise, Diet sodas have few to 0 calories, and only a little bit of sodium.
and the french fries... chew gum whenever you get that craving.0 -
I give in to them. I just account for it and do it in moderation.0

I have coke zero, the cherry coke zero is the best, and then there is always pepsi max, if you must have soda, then at least there are no cals!0

Have you tried tapering off of EVERY location? I was a huge Coke drinker. It was my comfort food. If I was anxious or any other emotion at high levels, I would drink a Coke, even NEED it. First, I figured out what my issues were so I didn't NEED Coke to cope anymore. However, beyond that, I used to keep soda in the house and always had a Coke everytime I was at a restaurant, movies, or anywhere. I stopped buy at the register. Once I got that down and didn't even feel as though I had betrayed myself, I stopped buying it for the house. Same method. I'm still working on not ordering it at restaurants and entertainment locations. This has been a several month process for me. However, it has been a huge help. Will power was a difficult hurdle simply because I was never really "that big" and then the number started to creep up on the scale. When I was only 20 lbs lighter than my husband who is 8 inches taller and in much better shape (Military guy), that it really hit me. I have asked for water the last 4 of the last 5 times I have eaten out (that 1 time I didn't someone else ordered for me and I only drank one glass and then had them bring me water) and drank a 20 oz pepsi during a 2 hour concert. I felt it was a treat. That is something to keep in mind too. Sometimes it doesn't hurt to treat yourself or to indulge, just don't over do it. It's finding what works for you to obtain your goals. Baby steps if will power is difficult. Good luck!!!!0

I usually pop some gum.....and it doesn't work for me very well anymore. I drink the low cal beverages if I really want something.0
