Back Again! Now with 'Chronic Plantar Fasciitis' Injury..Anyone else in same boat?!

Howdy!

My name is sarah and im based in Gloucester. Iv been on My Fitness Pal several times. 1st time was successful, I lost 2 stone between 2011-2013. Then after a bad break up everything just spiralled.

I noticed I came back here in 2016 when i was around 13st... Lets just say since then iv grown out and the numbers have risen!

I had a super awful time since Summer 2018 with close family members suddenly dying, getting depression, an illness that will stick with me for life *lets not get into that* and then to top it off 'Plantar Fascittis'... as of a few months a go classed at 'Chronic'. This means i struggle to walk and most of the time i am confined to indoors unless im having a good foot day and can manage a few hours outdoors. Iv had this for 1 year 1 month now. A few days ago I got my first steroid injection which can take up to 6 weeks to possibly work..crossing my fingers!

Well due to all the stress since then my weight as rocketed. I am now 15st 12 and freaking out if i gain 2 more pounds il be 16 stone. My BMI says Obese and its at 36.9. It saddens me as i remember the moment when i previously was classed as Obese and managed to knock it down to Overweight...I wish things didnt mess up and kept on going...

Anyhow, I was wondering if any of you on here are suffering from the same injury? Are you losing weight? If so, any tips can you share... I also just want to make more friends who have the same injury so i can moan and talk to plus motivate each other. I desperately want to change and not having mobility is making this harder.

My mum used to be extremely obese. She has lost weight over time. YEARS!! but now she is lighter and smaller then me!!! As a teen i vowed i would never get as fat as my mum now my mum is giving me her cast off clothes and asking me for clothes for events which are actually super baggy on her.

Anyone else who wants to add me please do. I need motivation and support....its hard to get when your cooped up indoors!!

Sarah

    Hey welcome back.

Are you seeking treatment for the planter fasciitis? I had it and it will flare up when I weer improper shoes or run too much. I did all the stretches and rolled it out with a roller thingie. It helped a lot. Takes time and it's super painful but I was able to get through it.. hope you find some relief

Im hoping it will work...it can take up to 6 weeks to even find out if its worked. its driving me looney now...iv turned into a totally difference person...i used to be a party animal, now i barely want to leave the house! Plus i have no job!... I want a career with animals but seems near impossible with this damn thing

I also have had PF. I went to a podiatrist who recommended support shoes for running, not walking around barefoot, and gave me a cortisone shot, which did eventually make the pain go away. I stopped running when life got in the way, and every time I try to start again I either get PF or some other affliction, or my asthma acts up, or something forces me back inside. I am trying to start moving again with low impact activities -- swimming (well, when the weather turns nicer anyway), yoga, tai chi... they even have chair yoga!

Yeah i had all of those too!! how long did it take for your shot to work? I had mine done last friday and rested for 2 days, it seems the 1st day i walked was much better but now its gone back to sore and limpy. Did you get much cramp in your leg too after the shot? my leg keeps siezing up with cramp which is making it hard to put my foot down properly too.

I was considering swimming soon! good suggestions for activities too. When and if this clears up I dont think il dare to run as scared il go back to it again

I always find stretching my foot s bit before I get out of bed helps. So I just pull my toes back toward me to give it a stretch otherwise those first few steps are unbearable.

It is possible to get relief believe me. I went to a physiotherapist for a few months for it....until I decided a different injury needed more attention

The best thing you can do for your pf is lose weight - by cutting calories. Exercise is helping for earning more calories to eat back but you can lose weight without it by setting a calorie goal in MFP and staying within your calorie deficit. Your feet will be much happier when they don’t have as much to carry, my PF is a thing of the past now that I’m normal weight!

A physical therapist is your 2nd stop after the doctor. It's a difficult condition to cure because generally you need to walk! The easy stuff is to 0) reduce running and walking for a while, 1) wear a brace at night, 2) wear a compression sock in day, 3) Stretch regularly, 4) put it on ice immediately when you get home at the end of the day.

If you want to exercise during your recovery, get to a pool or do one of the very low impact machines, such as recumbent stationary bike. Of course, you can work your upper body all you want! But: no rowing machine. It's hard to do it in many places, but another activity you can do is kayaking.

Best of luck in your journey! Time heals all wounds...
