Eating post workout?

Didn't get to the gym until almost midnight tonight, did a mix of cardio and weights. I've heard you need to eat post workout, but I don't really want to eat this late, plus I don't have any calories left in the day. Is there a negative caused by not eating? Thanks :)

It depends on your goals. If you are trying to bulk, it might be slightly advantageous to eat right after. If you're trying to recomp or cut, it's better not to go over your daily allotment.

If you seriously deplete your glycogen, then you should eat something so you have energy the next day and aren't too hungry to sleep. For me that means I'll make a point of eating after an 8+ mile run but I don't worry about it for short sessions. If you are getting enough protein overall, I don't think you need to supplement after a session unless you are doing heavy weights where you are really tearing down your muscles.

You're fine, your body isn't starved for nutrients especially since you already hit your caloric (and assuming macro) goals. You'll be in a resting state while you sleep so you're burning minimal calories. If one of your goals is fat loss then focus on the calories/macros for the day and not as much about when you get them.
