So it was my son's birthday this past weekend, we went out to dinner both days, I tried to eat protein as my main source but I didn't make great food choices. I just didn't know if it was possible to gain two pounds or if it could possibly sodium intake? I work out every day, I get my 10K steps in every day.

to gain 2 lbs of fat you would need to eat 7000 calories above maintenance level....likely it is mostly water retention.6

I agree with nighthawk.
Just stay the course. When you have significant body fat, the water fluctuations are going to be big, like up to five pounds.
Here, have you read this? It's good. :flowerforyou:

I’ve gained four poinds in a single day between water retention and constipation while staying under 1,500cals. I’ve also lost two pounds in a day after consuming 2,200cals. People have different fluctuation windows depending on their genetics, medical conditions, diet, and activity levels. My window is about 5lbs. One of my sisters’ is 2lbs.
If you’ve been consistent outside of your son’s birthday, more than likely it’s water retention that could be related to a number of factors (sodium intake, dehydration, muscle repair after exercise, etc). Don’t sweat it. It’ll resolve over the next few days if you keep on keeping on!

To gain 2 lbs, you would need to consume 17 Big Macs. You may want to track your weight on a weekly average and weigh yourself early in the morning.
My weight varies by 6 lbs depending on time and day and day of week. Monday afternoon is usually the highest.0
