Where's the motivation?

I have just a tad over none. I have a treadmill and I want to use it but I just never have the drive to stick with it. On the days when I wake up early I try to get on but I'll be honest that rarely happens. For one I am always tired and I don't want to get up when the alarm goes off much less early. Also it is so boring! I listen to music but that doesn't really make a difference for me. I tried easing into it. I thought if I could just form the new habit of getting on every day I could stick with it. I just haven't been able to yet. I try to just get on for 10 minutes. Right now I just want to form the habit. Once I get into the habit of getting on daily I will start adding time and turn it into a real workout. I'm just feeling blah. I have never participated in any "fad" diets. I just want to eat better and exercise to get and stay healthy.

So I'm going to tackle this again.

What got me going on my treadmill when I first started was by putting a TV and a DVD player in front of the machine. I watched an entire TV series while I walked on the treadmill and because I get hooked on the show, it motivated me to get on the treadmill everyday so that I could watch the next episode and see what was going to happen next. You'd be surprised how fast the time goes by this way.

I started at about 30 minutes with a fast-paced walk and gradually added time / speed / incline.

I still do this but I have incorporated weight lifting into my program as you need to change it up a bit or you will get bored fast.

You can also try walking / running outside while the weather is still nice.

Another thing you can do is get a workout partner. This really helps to keep you motivated.

    Good luck!

I have thought about turning it to face the tv. I am very limited on space in my house so idk how I will make this work. I know that once I get a good routine going I will feel better. It's just the getting there.

Absolutely. Getting started is the hardest part. It literally look me a couple of years to get started and stick with it myself. I found once I started seeing the results it really helped me to keep going.

    Good luck!!

My suggestion is to take it outside(not the treadmill just you). I've been running for over 2 years now and cannot get motivated if I have to use the treadmill. Outside is so much more interesting, people, scenery, fresh air, sun shine and the list goes on. Give it a try it's addicting.
  • I had to take to the outdoors. The treadmill just doesn't do it for me.

I dread having to get back on the treeadmill this winter! I mush prefer running outdoors to the treadmill! BORING! Go outside!

I really don't want to go outside where I live. Yuck! I also live on the outskirts of town so I would have to drive to a walking path or track and I don't always have the time to drive some where to walk. If I lived in a better neighborhood going outside would be a great idea. I would like to start doing yoga. I have a bad back and I think yoga would help.

I'm loving the zombies, run! App for staying motivated with my runs. I can't wait to run and pick up more supplies for my base, and hear the story unfold. Seriously makes running a little more fun :)
