Wow 6lb in week 1

Hi everyone, I joined after I was given news by the doctor that I’ll have a heart attack in the next 10 years because of my lifestyle and I’m overweight. It wasn’t a shock and I’ve always known I’m overweight but tbh I thought I was generally healthy but the blood tests, blood pressure said otherwise. It was a big wake up call for me to change my eating and drinking habits and my health back on track. The first week without this app I put on 2lbs but couldn’t understand why as I did exercise 4 times that week and ate porridge and fruit lots of each. I was disappointed and a friend mentioned this app. I put my previous weeks log of meals and then realised I was eating far too much carbohydrates and sugar. I changed my diet the following week with the help of the app, religiously exercised and guess what I lost 6lb and blood pressure has dropped. I appreciate this won’t happen each week but if I loose a lb a week I will reach my first milestone of 3 stone by the end of the year. I need to loose 6 stone as instructed by my doctor and determined to show her I can do this and next time instead a health f red warning signals I can turn them green instead 😃😃😃

Well done! I managed to drop 7 last year and have not only kept it off, but started to gain more muscle, which I had not done since my 20s. Moderation is the Key with the alcohol, at least for me.0

Good job. I too have found that MFP incredibly useful for tracking everything I put in my mouth. Including when I go off track a bit. If I eat it, I log it. And I weigh everything solid. Getting and using a weight scale has been a huge win for me.
And boy did you hit on another great little thing in your post. There is nothing quite as cool, as going into to see the Dr. And giving them the shock to see that you did in fact lose weight. My Dr. told me that for every 50 patients she explains why they should work on losing weight, only about 5 actually successfully take 5% or more of their weight off.
So again you have the right attitude, which is so important.0 -

Please note though to the bolded, carbs and sugar do not cause fat gain, if you eat more carbs than normal you may retain some water, but as you're trying to lose fat not water that's kind of moot. Additionally if the exercise was new that can also cause water retention. Weight loss isn't linear and even if you stick to an accurate calorie deficit week in, week out, there'll be weeks when you see no loss and may see a gain.
When you change your diet, particularly with lower carbs, you drop a lot of water weight at the beginning. Calories are what matter for weight loss, many people here have lost weight just fine on moderate to high carb ratios. So don't feel like you have to cut out food you enjoy if they help you stick with your calorie goal in the long term.2
