Protein

I've slowly gained weight over the past couple years, after previously losing 125lbs. I lift weights 5-6 days per week and walk a tremendous amount, so the exercise has been great. I just struggled with the eating part. I am conscious of what I eat and keep calories low most meals, but the problem is that I am always looking for a snack. I realized a few days ago that I get very little protein in my diet, especially considering that I lift weights regularly. The appetite increase seemed to occur around the time that I began working out. I'm starting to think that is my problem. Maybe my body is essentially craving more protein? Is that possible? I've upped my protein the past two days, and the need for snacks has dramatically dropped. Anyone else experienced this?

Many people find protein satiating, and quite a few report that sub-par nutrition can result in hunger/cravings.
Bottom line: Sounds to me like you're normal!
Increasing your protein to recommend levels is a good plan.
Best wishes for great success!6
