Craving carbs after sleeping

I work long hours and every now and then Ill have a nap in the day when I can but whenever I do I wake up and am insatiably hungry and crave carbs. This afternoon I woke and was like stuff it I’ll order pizza. I ended up having a sandwich Within my calories *just, but this happens every time I nap and It’s definitely where I trip staying within calories. How would you all tackle this issue? Anyone else deal with this?

You can plan for that, unless on a super low carb diet. Just plan a meal with some carbs like bread and eat it at that time if it's a nap day.

Personally, I tend to be groggy when waking up if I happen to nap, and I know I used to crave simple carbs (with or without fat) when tired since it was quick energy, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's related. You could try something like fruit initially (which is a form of quick carbs) and then eat whatever your plan is or ignore the craving and see if eating something filling helps. You could also try having some caffeine before eating anything if that won't mess up your sleep further (and if possible getting enough sleep tends to make dieting easier).

Personally, I worked crazy shifts for years, and found the sleep disruption did the same. It affects your moods, grehlin release and cortisol levels which made me self soothe with carbs. I’d opt for something very quick like a protein shake that you can drink quicker than you can grab carbs. Psychologically, meditation and waiting ten minutes then allowing myself something if I really need it.
