Does a curved treadmill really burn calories faster?

Today I was on a curved treadmill machiene for the first time and noticed it claimed to burn upto 30% more calories.
Along side this, the calories counter on the machiene was shooting up incredibly fast, so much so that I find it hard to believe. I did not feel like I was working particularly hard compared to a standard tred mill and yet the calories were rocketing up, I ended up burning around 100+ in only 7-10 mins. If i compare this to me on a normal treadmill on a lvl 2 incline I will burn a fraction of that. I really find it hard to believe how fast the curved machiene claims to burn calories.
Does anybody have any insight on this?
Thankyou,
James.

I don't think the calorie counts on treadmills or other work out machines are accurate at all.

I would only allow you to burn more calories if it made you, or enabled you, to work harder.

I don’t know about all curved treadmills, but the ones at my gym could potentially burn a few more calories than a flat treadmill. However, I would be extremely skeptical of a 30% difference. The curved treadmills I’ve used don’t have mechanized belts, so the slightly increased resistance might burn an extra few calories, but I can’t imagine it would be significant.
