WOW and Just FYI/heads up...

Kim Iversen2 weeks ago

1. The guy was American, he didn’t have an accent.
2. I sorted it out at my bank. The texts I received were actually from the bank, the first text was from when scammer was trying to log into my account, he didn’t have the password, the code reset my password. This explains why I couldn’t log into my account when I was on the phone with him. The second text was a verification code for when he went into my account and attempted to wire himself thousands of dollars.
3. Luckily my bank was already onto the scam and when they guy attempted to wire transfer himself money the bank requires verbal confirmation from me. I never gave it so he never got the money.
4. What we don’t know is how he got the initial sensitive information needed to trigger a code to log in. He needed quite a bit of personal info to even get that far. The card number, my social, my email accounts etc. because he entered all of that information correctly it triggered a code to my phone. I thought it was simply a safety feature, which btw, at the branch today I had to go through a similar protocol with a code.
5. Everything is canceled and changed.

I get those calls almost every day

What is this world coming to when scammers want the 70 bucks in my savings account

At least let me buy some cookie butter first

Firstly, like most people I know, I never answer my phone. Someone, anyone, needs to leave VM. Odd that he called back 3 times... when engaged on the line, doesn't the call go to VM when declined? It's as if he knew she was on the line & would eventually answer. Second, if this happens to anyone, say 'thank you for letting me know', hang up & call the 800# on the back of your card. It's the only way to ensure you're speaking with the CC co.

I recently received a new card from my CC co. They sent snail mail telling me I was one of xxx people whose accounts might have been compromised in a data breach, so the new card was following via mail.

Fine, but I once had a credit card stolen from my mail & 2nd time, I don't know how "they" gained access to my account (over $1K in charges both times), but the Fraud Dept had to investigate, so... I guess we're never 100% safe when using plastic or phone apps, like Apple Pay, to pay for goods/services? But, most importantly, never trust the stranger on the phone... call the co directly.
