Then you have come to the right place. Just enter your stats and choose a reasonable weight loss goal eg:1lb per week. Weigh and measure everything you eat, log your calories and stick to the goal that MFP has given you. Try this for 6 to 8 weeks and then adjust if needed. Be patient the results will come.

    Good luck

    Good advice above.

Very respectfully, I'd like to add this, though I don't know whether it applies to you, or not: Excess weight and not feeling good about oneself do tend to be closely interrelated. Thing is, some people perceive that excess weight is the cause, and that weight loss alone will repair their self image.

This is sometimes true, but not always. It can be complicated.

It can be the reverse, that not feeling good about oneself leads to not putting appropriate emphasis and energy into health-improving practices, and excess weight is a result. Or, the two can be mutually reinforcing, a sort of cycle of non-self-valuing, and overeating plus being underactive.

It may be useful to give some thought to how you experience this, and how that might affect how you use MFP's very helpful tools.

Weight loss has the potential to be rewarding in itself, through better appearance, improved health, and increased mobility. Also, the act of setting goals and accomplishing them can be quite tranformational, and can become a skill set one can apply productively in other areas of life (finances, career, hobby skills, etc.). But a few people undertake weight loss, succeed, find that they're pretty much attitudinally who they were when they started, and are then disappointed or still unsatisfied.

So, I'd endorse the weight-management techniques folks have recommended above 100%, but encourage you toward self-assessment and insight that may give you even better results, even beyond weight.

    Best wishes!
